Wow! I didn't know winchester prices had gone that high. Thanks for the thoughts on the different actions to all of you. I do already have the winchester. So, are you saying used rifles in decent shape are bringing in a grand?! That's more than I paid by about double. If that is the case, I may just sell that and go one of the other routes with the seed money

Don't get mad, Dicky. You got your ass spanked. Now go ride your little horse and play with your Nerf board.

No need to share your photo album, pretty obvious where your interest are.
Come on, Dicky, is that the best you've got?

So why don't you post any pictures of anything you've done, Dicky? Too busy riding that horse in the other photo? Or were you floating on your Nerf "surf" board in the kiddie pool?

The obvious question is why you would have pictures like that; the answer is just as obvious.

Don't play coy, Dicky, I got that from you.

Yes, Dicky, I'm sure you are "reveling" in that photograph.

So you have been in trouble for kiddie porn. I'm not surprised at all.

You referred to your Model 70 as a "pre-'64" in your original post. Is it a pre-'64? Or is it a left-handed Model 70? They're too vastly different rifles. If it's a left-handed Model 70 in 7mm Remington Magnum, it's worth around $1K; 0.473" bolt face chamberings are bringing slightly more.

If it's a pre-64 Model 70, then that's another matter entirely.

Your vocabulary is nearly as strong as your grasp on Rockwell hardnesses, Dicky.

CLICK D LINK, DICKY

So why don't you post any pictures of anything you've done? Aside from that disturbing photo of you on that horse.

To the OP: The first question is do you want a left or right hand build ? IF you are O.K. with a RH build, the Winchester is an O.K. place to start. You already have it. And the one Pre64 M70 I have owned (purchased used on GB) was one of the smoothest actions I have owned.

If you want a Left Hand build, the Pre-64 M70 is a good piece to sell to generate cash. If it is in reasonable condition, you should be able to land within $100 +/- of a decent LH custom action (MRC or Stiller). As stated above the Rem 700 wins the after market parts availability hands down for "options". the stiller is a Rem 700 clone. So most 700 parts interchange without issue.

IF you want CRF, MRC actions are Win M70 clones (+/-) and depending on the phase of the moon, anywhere from a little less expensive to a LOT less expensive than a true LH Win M70. But, if you luck into a true LH Win M70 for a reasonable price, it's workable for a build.

Personally I act as a "general contractor". I do simple work like swapping stocks, scopes, mounts, bottom metal, and Rem 700 triggers myself. However, I have had a professional gunsmith re-barrel every rifle I have changed the tube on. Remington and Winchester generally require some amount of lathe work to properly fit and chamber. I am not going to change enough barrels to justify the cost of lathe and then learning to use it. Easier for me to job it out. Cerakoting and hydrodipping I job out also.

The only caution is ... beware ... it is addicting ...

Somehow I don't think you'll be around when Rick sees the kiddy porn you're posting on his site.

Oh Dicky, you do so amuse me with your stupidity, limited vocabulary, and juvenile tattle tale antics.

I must have been confused on the pre '64 action then. I thought it was on the hangtag when I bought it about 10-15 years back. It is a lefty mod 70 in 7 mm rem mag.

It was CRF, which is similar to the pre-'64 Model 70s, and Winchester/USRAC capitalized on this in their ads. But it's not a pre-'64 by any stretch of the imagination.

Hey mate,

Maybe just start with a restock and see how you want to go from there?
There will be guys no doubt queuing to buy it if you do sell it though.

I like the win 70 action and reckon its a great place to start. If you are only going to do it once do it right first time. Spend heaps of time looking at what you want and the features that are important to you.

Good luck and don't rush! If you do want to sell I will take it haha!

Regards,

Mog
