I have picked up shooting clays with my son. And the only gun I have close , is a Miruku O/U skeet / skeet my brother shot in Germany in the late 60's. A great skeet gun, but too short and open for sporting clays.
Looking a the new Red Labels rented one and it was ok
I ate the Auto safety..
The Barretta all purpose gun looks good
and still under $2k
Thats probably gonna be my price limit...

any suggestions?

I have been using a Browning Citori "Lightning Sporting Clays" model for about the past 15 years or so and have been very happy with it.
30 inch barrels, which helps with the swing. Works very well for trap too.

And if the walk isn't too long its great in the field too.

Look for a good used one!!!

I sold all my doubles except my 20ga SxS bird gun and now shoot a Beretta A400 for skeet, clays, trap and duck hunting. Picking up shells can be a pain but with a magnet on a stick it's not a big deal at all. If you are going to compete at the very highest levels an O/U might be necessary for absolute reliability but for the rest of us a semi will shoot softer without resorting to tube sets or light loads. If you're dead set on a O/U, A Beretta 686 Onyx Sporting with 32" barrels can be found at great prices used, I paid about $600 for mine. For a little more money and a bit more searching, a used Zoli would also be an excellent choice.

Great suggestions. I second the O/U with 30 or 32 inch barrels.
Try before you buy, they say if a Beretta fits you a Browning won't, and vice-versa. Proved true for me. Oversimplification of gun fit I know, but something to keep in mind.

I wanted a Browning, but it was the Beretta that fit like a glove.

For 2k what about a nice used browning 425 or 525 with 30" tubes?

I shot a 525 for many years and it was good to me.
