A new office assistant so she had 5 interviews set up for today......2 called and cancelled, 1 called and said she was sick, 1 never called or showed up. She did one interview today and that gal didn't pan out.

WTF! I truly believe the vast majority wants a hand out 'cause they sure the hell don't want to work.

Not enough incentive for them to work.

All they have to do is line up with their hands out...

I lost my job 1.5 yrs ago and landed my job that I have now. I make enough to cover my bills, work 50 hours a week and drive an average of 800 miles a week. Next year I will double my income with the potential to double it again in another 2-3 years. What am I doing wrong?

No problem whatsoever finding qualified candidates for a part time job opening I advertised this week. Heck, I'd have been happy with 9 out of 10 in the "cull" pile during the boom times 6 years ago. Heck, just happy to HAVE a cull pile.....

Maybe when a job brings home more than $350 a week people will get serious about working.

Maybe - if we QUIT handouts - people would be interested in working. And the economy would take off!

Are you serious? I worked many minimum wages jobs in collage AND GRAD SCHOOL!

Entry level jobs at $8.75 and someone has a problem working at that level? Get a skill or education and then start your career.

If you don't like what minimum wage pays, do something to improve your prospects. There will always be some who won't. It shouldn't be anyone else's problem. Best thing I did was quit school after earning my AA ......and realizing that I wasn't going to go far without finishing. Retiring after 29 years in teaching has me feeling grateful that I stuck with it in the beginning.

sorta like the military. Seems like better than half of recruits are not up to the job.

I work in a IT shop that produces in house applications for genetic testing.

Our number one focus is dumbing the apps down to the point where a retarded [bleep] could run things. Because that is about what they are hiring these days.

And these are college grads, supposedly.

or, nobody wants to work for that particular employer. I know lots of businesses that can't seem to find "good" employees, bitch about it, yet never look themselves in the mirror and realize nobody with half a brain would work for them.

Good businesses attract good employees.

My Grand Father was a cowboy prior to the turn of the previous century, 1800s to 1900s. He did the Depression, he did the dust bowl.
He presented me with two very profound bits of wisdom.
Starvation is inspirational.
There's only one thing dumber then a horse and that's the man on top of him.

Not trusting his life experience I had to try both out for myself and found he was correct.

Don't sweat it.....
He'll never "get" it.....
He's from Oregon.
'Nuff said.

P.S. I used to hire an assistants......I gave up and just do it myself, which wasn't much of a change from when I had the assistants.
Part-Time or seasonal hiring is tough.

Heck Sam come to WV, it's fairly common to bring a 6 pack or even a case of beer to work. I know several guys that would quit if they aren't allowed to drink on the job.

Any one who would have that kind of attitude looking for a job isn't worth a [bleep] anyway. Tells me they have no work ethic and really don't want a job.

Used to be that people had pride in themselves, and would be near starvation before they would take a handout. Not talking about neighbors helping neighbors. Now most will tell you that you are stupid if you do not stick your hand out. frown miles

I make a little over $300 a week and that pays the mortgage/home insurance, electric and internet.

Frankly, I'm impressed that I can walk into a fast food place and still find people working.

Sadly it sure seems to be going that way. Fundamental change in action.
