Stag arms has some good deals on uppers. Looks like a intersting cartridge. Anyone tried it ?

Unless running suppressed I just don't see why anyone would use the round.

Suppressed, if it kills as well or better with modern subsonic bullets as it did years ago with 240 SMKs, then it'll be good for that job.

I have not had time to try the Lehigh or OUtlaw state yet and have only recently shot some 240s again, and they will not open at all, but have always been found tumbing in the impact area.

BTW if you are going to use it supersonic, the X39 would be my choice in that size cartridge, hands down.

Yup, I have one.
It's best suppressed. However, if you reload, it's still somewhat preferable to the 7.62x39 if you reload certain combinations of other cartridges. For me, I reload magnum pistol, .223Rem and several .308" cartridges. So I already had every single component that I needed: powder from magnum pistol, primers and cut down cases from .223, and .308 bullets from my .30 reloading stash.
If you cast, it's an even better cartridge, as it works well with gas checked bullet even within the fastest speed of its envelope, and subsonic heavy bullet cast loads can be shot very, very cheaply with no gas check and powder loads lighter than those used in a .357 Magnum!
If you run suppressed pistol, most newer 9mm and .45 suppressors support subsonic ONLY use, which is really the main point of the .300 anyway. Even better, take down pistol suppressors support the use of cast bullets. For me, the .300 just extended what I already had.

Now, if I was a new shooter, and didn't reload or cast, had no AR platforms, and had no intention of suppressing anything? In that case, .300 wouldn't be the ideal cartridge, and 7.6x39 would make more sense. Likewise, for the reloader and caster who is already invested in .311 and has no intention of suppression, the 7.62x39 is certainly quite adequate.

x39 runs .308 bullets in most GOOD barrels....

The rest you mention, you can do easy with an X39 all day long. Without brass forming and so on.

Just my take. I'd never get a 300 just to use super sonic when the stuff for the x39 is just as common and no brass forming etc....

logistics-wise I like the cartridge - an AR can be converted with only a barrel - the bolt, mags, even buffer are the same.

It is a versatile cartridge, every thing from hunting to self defense.

Supersonic it's almost a 30-30, which isn't a bad thing considering the AR platform adds accuracy. If you're looking to add another option to your AR platform, it's an interesting round.

That said, for supersonic use it's tough to beat what the .223/5.56 offers.

I like to farc around with it. Neat round and fun to shoot subs suppressed. But to me, it's just an expensive toy to play with.

I'm surprised so many think its good supersonic or that having the same bolt etc... matters.

Doesn't make me right and youse guys wrong, but it does amaze me.

+1 for subsonic it makes sense, if your not going to buy a suppressor I myself would not put the effort into it. I do fancy the idea of a 7.62 x 39 in an AR cause I have tried all the AK blasters I can stomach in a lifetime..

It's kinda like a 30-30 was back the days of youth. Growing up in the Northwest, the 30-30 was a somewhat of an accepted status symbol for us teenagers. If you were in the "becoming-a-hunter" club, you had your "own" 30-30 for deer season.

Fast forward 35 years, I see the same thing here in Virginia with the 20-somethings and the .300 Blackout, you are not in the "cool kids" club unless you have one.

Given the ballistic similiarity between the two rounds, it seems pretty ironic...

I actually built my 300 AAC because it was something i didn't have. I like the little round

.300 is popular here in VA because of our stupid "no under .23" centerfires for deer" rule. IE, you can't use a regular .223Rem AR to hunt deer here, as you can in many states. Couple that with so many new shooters starting with ARs, and that we allow suppressed hunting and semi-auto rifles, and you make the .300 popular as a 2nd caliber. VA game laws ironically create the perfect conditions for .300 use.

It makes a decent low recoil deer round for the new hunter.

Bought it and some brass and Lee dies. So far it shoots five in 1" using some ancient 125 Sierra SPs and 190 gr Sierra MKs.
Far more accurate than any AK. Getting a supressor is a pain but maybe once Obama is gone, states rights will no longer be a dirty word.

Where you at? Suppressors here in TX are easy.

As I understand it, suppressors are a Federal gig not a state one. Your state may permit them but you still have to go through the federal paperwork, wait months, notify the head of your local LEO office, form a corporation to own it so it won't be seized when you die and, of course, your name is on yet another federal list of those who "need to be watched." Silly when you think that in NZ you can walk in a gunstore and buy one for 1 for less than 1/2 of what the people who sell them here charge.

um, yeah, you got it. Of course I"m not the McDonalds have to have instant gratification type.

And IM' on their list so many times with other stuff anyway, CMP guns, shooting etc... that part doesn't matter.

Took me maybe 5 months to get the 2 we bought. Took us maybe 2 weeks to have the trust formed.

But yes, other areas are easier and I"d like that. But its not hard here.

I've had to jump through way more hoops for things much less fun.

As far as I know I am on the IRS, ATFE, DEA and most likely NSA radar. I am sure there are a few others. Privacy is dead. Lois Lerner and similar govt employees outed you a long time ago.
