Across the Wide Missouri-Bernard DeVoto

Just finished this one, a chronicle and narrative of the Rocky Mountain beaver/fur trade between 1832-1838 and its implications on Manifest Destiny. This is the latter part of the interim between the Lewis and Clark expedition and westward expansion/Oregon Trail migration, the peak and fall of the beaver trade. Centered around the fur trade, the fur trappers/mountain men and the yearly rendezvous there is a bunch of good stuff about the mountain trade, mountain life, Indian culture, Indian relations, Indian/White culture misunderstandings, fighting, early settler life, early emigrant life/tribulations, etc. I found it very informative and Devoto keeps it interesting, I think it's worth a read if you're interested in this period of American history.
