screw that, just bring back a very nice 1954 era 300 and 250 savage chamberings, Nothing else is needed, really, if those two wont reach, you need to get closer, not bigger.

I know the count ended awhile back but I can't resist. Caught the bug so to speak. 5 total and counting for me.

1899 .303-A
1899 .303-B
1899 30-30-A take down with 30" barrel
99 .300-EG
99 .250-3000-EG

Would love an early RS in .300 and a RS in .358

I would love to see pictures of your 1899A in 30-30 with a 30" barrel. Start another thread and post up the details and pictures. Don't see many with extra long barrels.

I might be selling a 300RS in the near future.

I will post pics on a new thread as soon as I can, I live in Canada so unless you know a way to get em by the border guards your RS is sadly safe from me!

too be honest, I'm not too worried about finding a buyer but interested to see your long barreled 30-30. Do you have a factory letter on it? Just start another post when you get time.

I thought I would share some photos of the two Savages my dad gave to me last year.

The first picture is of my great grandfather's 1899-A (short barrel 22", made in 1904) in a .38-55 cal. My great grandfather bought it when he was married in 1905. I plan on using this rifle for hunting season this fall.

The second is a photo of my great uncle's 99 Savage (I think it is a model E, as it has a 24" barrel and was made in 1929). I found the CIL crate when I was cleaning out the wood house.

Third picture is of my great grandfather and great uncle together (g. grandfather is in the middle, g. uncle on the left). Unfortunately I don't have any photos of them with their guns.

I also wanted to say a huge thanks to 99trix who sold me a new lever for the 1899 and answered my many questions.

Cigar,

Look under the "misc. good info" thread... You need to send your request to John Callahan... he has the factory records. You might get a ship to shop or person and usually an exact date... probably will not get a state.

If you post pics here, you could get some good info., just start a new thread. And the barrels are measure all the way across the front receiver ring... should probably be 26"

Why did Savage not go any Futher with 1 Of the 1st Calibors such as the 32-20 Prototype?? Also at 1 Time there where a Couple of 99's that where Chamberd for the 30-06 as Prototype's which where simular to the "R"and wider in the receiver and Heavier! The 30-06 I had Seen On Auction Several Years Ago. And Who Owns the Oldest Savage!
This Would Be some Great Data to get for Savage Collectors and For Jed's Savage Fest in August.
And wouldn't Be Wonderful If We could Get Savage Arms to Reintroduce the Savage 99 Again?? And If they Did as to What Calibors would You Like to See??

I doubt if Savage would ever entertain the idea of re-manufacturing this wonderful gun we all love so well. I think the only way something like that would ever happen is that they would have to sell the rights to someone else who would make them under the name "The Model 99 Rifle Company" or something like that. It's not impossible. Look at Henry, Ithaca and Springfield. However, it would probably take every serious Savage collector in the world to pool their resources together and start the company. I would like to see one in 7mm Remington Magnum.

Start a new thread with as much information about it as you can provide plus the serial. Post pics if you can. Once you do that you'll probably get more information about it than you're ready for. wink

I'd like to see the 99's in the new modern short magnum calibers and some of the more versatile handgun calibers like 454 Casull and 357 Maximum. A .223 would make it the very best ranch rifle ever as it really is a saddle gun unlike the autoloaders. If I may venture one more assertion, since Rossi and others are now making interchangeable rifles sets, I'd also like to see the 99 in set like the ones above accompanied by a suitable shotgun barrel. A man could be set for life with something like that...I guess that's what they had in mind when they designed it.

I have 2 99s. In the picture the upper is 99TD in 250-3000 and the lower is 99F in 300 Sav.
