How does this Browning High Wall 1885 compare to a Ruger No. 1. Browning on Gunbroker

I have both.
Can't say one is better made than the other.
Both are very well made.

Apples to oranges. They're both single shot falling block actions but that's about it.

The Browning in the link is a Low Wall, not a High Wall. The Browning will probably shoot very well out of the box. The trigger will be too stiff, and you will invent new words trying to take it apart and get it back together again. A black pad Ruger with hammer forged barrel will give it a run for its money on accuracy. It's easier to work on,and is made in the USA. I like both, myself. Sure would like to have a low wall in .30-30, with nice wood...

The B78 or 1885 Brownings seem to shoot very well out of the box. Some of the Number 1's are great, some not so good. Only have experience with red pads on the Number 1's.
The B78's can be dangerous to let the hammer down when loaded. The 1885 is better. The Number 1's are safer in that regard.
Either is worth owning but if I had to choose it would be the 1885, just for its accuracy and its appearance. I like the hammer.

Accuracy from Ruger #1's is a sometimes thing.
Browning 1885's accuracy always impresses me. I don't think the two can be compared as equals by any stretch.
I recently sold a like 1885 Low Wall in 260 Remington for more than $1400. There is not a Ruger #1 in existence I would spend more than $800 for. Indeed I own no Rugers. I do own several 1885's, both Browning & Winchester.

I have a Ruger black pad #1V in 25-06 and a Winchester High Wall 22-250. Both shoot .600-<.700" five shot average at 100 yds. The difference is the Winchester did it right out of the box. The #1 did it after much work with shim bedding and barrel pressure at the fore end. For varmint hunting and off the bench I prefer the Win. 1885. For deer and coyotes I much prefer the #1 because of its superb balance and the way it come up perfectly every time.I will never sell either. My son will get one and Grandson the other.

It is my favorite rifle to shoot. Thousands of rodents have died.

In my photos above, the .475 and the .270 are straight out of the box, unmodified, they needed no work other than a bit of handloading. Now the .22-250 at the bottom - it was an okay shooter, but needed work to make it excellent.
