Lol, yeah buddy. I realize their not bench guns, I figure there are a good walking gun. If I was hunting out of a blind, I would use something better suited.

I have a great shooter then. SS Ballard rifling. Leupold 2-7x32. 240 Noslers and XTP are 1.5" for 3 at 100. Noslers 24gr 296, XTP 25gr 296. My cast Lee 310gc are scary accurate. Quenched ww and 21gr H110 are doing just over an inch. Not what I would have expected when I got that gun. My favorite for all things hunting to 150 yds.

Was going to mention that I read on Beartooth Bullets' website about how to file back the stop on the feed ramp and then did it. Easily done, though it took a while because I was afraid of screwing it up. My rifle now feeds cartridges 1.78" oal.

Anyone have any 200 grain cast loads that they use?

I picked up some 265 gr FXT yesterday and loaded a couple rounds up to see how that would fly .
It seems that in my rifle the FXT tip are to long and don't feed from the tube .
So I pulled the tip out and they cycle fine now ,
Loaded some with 26 gr of 296 and that seem to like that at 100 yards just under 3 inches I think today I will try a few different powders and see what they produce

with the Hornady FTX bullets you have to shorten the brass to make them work

I did some more reading on these FXT bullets and found a few forums ,dealing with the length and found that trimming .150 should make them feed a lot better

This one gives me clover leaf groups at 50 yards, and 1.5 inches or less at 100 yards.
The only load I use is the Speer 270 grain GDSP, over 21 grains of H110. Velocity on the Chrony Beta is 1625 fps, give or take a little.

There's several loads mentioned here that I've used in my .44 rifles, pistols or both. Just for yucks, I'll post my observations.

28 grs H110 under a 200 gr JHP - Used this load from my 7.5" Redhawk on white tails. Lots of muzzle blast. Bullet (in my case it was a Nosler JHP) seemed to be a bit on the light side for deer. Penetration was less than expected, probably because of dramatic expansion and separation of core - smallish buck caught 2 of these bullets. I don't recall what this load chronied, but it has significant blast and was the most unpleasant load I've tried to date in my L framed model 69.

24 grs H110 under a 240 Remington SJHP - One of my favorite loads for hunting with my Redhawk, but I believe this bullet is a bit soft at rifle/carbine velocities, lack of penetration on average sized deer was apparent. Killed the deer, though. I think the XTP or Gold Dot would be a better bet on medium game.

21.5 grs. H110 under a 270 gr Speer GDSP. This load chronied just a hair over 1,600 fps from my short barreled Marlin 1894P. Great bullet for penetration with expansion, IMHO. Surprisingly, this load was noticeably less obnoxious from my model 69 than the 200 grain JHP over 28 grs H110.

21 grs. H110 over a Lee 310 gr WFNGC bullet cast of WW. Surprisingly accurate from my Redhawk and my Marlin 1894P. Speeds were just over 1,200 fps from the Redhawk and just a hair over 1,500 fps from the stubby, ported Marlin.

I gotta spend some time and get a bunch more of these bullets cast.

Not mentioned here, but just yesterday I loaded 189 240 gr RNFP commercial cast bullets over 9 grs Unique with a CCI 300 LPP in mixed brass. Speed measured at 10' from the 4.2" barrel of the model 69 were higher than expected at approx. 1,050 fps. This is just about what I was looking for as a general purpose load from this gun, so I consider that load a keeper.

When loading cast in my pistol ,I have noticed that if they aren't loaded up towards the top end it doesn't shoot a good group it is a Ruger new model super black hawk with a 10 1/2 in barrel

I like the sound of that 270 gr bullets heading south today to a gun store that has a bigger selection of bullets than what I can get around the north country hoping to find some 270 and see how that fly

Unless your hunting regulations require expanding bullets, I suggest you not overlook hard cast flat nosed bullets from about 210 to 310 grains. I use only 240 grain Keith style bullets for both .44 Special and Magnums. They will shoot through deer sideways or perhaps lengthwise. .44 holes do not need to expand to make the game leak.

Yep, I agree. I shoot the Beartooth bullets 300 grain WFN, mv about 1575 fps, and I doubt there's any two deer in Virginia that can stop one.

And, the shortest run I had last year was with that load. Last year was the "Season of the Runners", I couldn't knock a deer down DRT with a truck....All good shots, just some hard-running deer.

That WFN induced a severe case of leakage.

I hope the 44 magnum supplies in your area are better than they are here. Heck, even all the major national places are in horribly short supply on 44 bullets, brass and ideal powders. Good luck.
