I talked to Ron Coburn this morning. He doesn't think he can make it to Savage Fest but wants to put together something to be displayed or some sort of a verbal presentation to be read at Savage Fest. What would you guys like to see or hear from him? David

Just have him ship the firearms on display at Savage out to Wisconsin for a couple of days. grin

Actually, if he could give a talk or pass along information about what he remembers of the Portuguese 99's from the early 90's, I'd find that interesting. Who did the work, how many were done (including how many 308's versus how many 243's if he possibly remembers that).

I'd love to hear him talk about what they determined a few years ago when they looked into bringing the 99 back as a prewar style, but found it to be too expensive.

Ron retired from Savage early last year but still has some input. I'm not sure how far his influence goes. He's scheduled to be in Ireland during Savage Fest and probably can't change his plans. He has a great deal of respect for the forum and asked if there would be future Fests. He'll come up with possibly something to display and definitely a message for someone to read to the attendees. I met Ron at an event in Hartford, Ct a few years ago and we both ended up at the bar. We BS'd for an hour or so and he was delightful to talk with.
I have had a lot of respect for him ever since.

Sending out any one=of=a=kind 99 from their collection that we otherwise would never see would be cool!

I'll ask him if he can send his rifles to the Fest. He has some interesting ones including a couple of early rifles and a 99DL type. The receiver of the DL type is covered with deep engraving and has gold inlays and the stock is carved. David
