I have really had NO interest in the slew of 1911, 22 LR pistols in the gun market ... until recently.

Now I am looking at a COLT [Umarex/Walther Mfg] 1911-22 Government Model,
which is a dead ringer for my Springfield 1911 A1 GI, 45 ACP pistol.

Just wondering, if this COLT [licensed] version is good? Or should I be looking at something else?

If you like a cheap plastic 1911 that feels like the old Crossman BB Pistol from the 1960's. Don't know anyone personally that has one or how they shoot.

But If you want the best 1911 Dedicated .22 LR, take a look at Kimber's Match Target 1911 in .22 LR.
Mine feeds every type of .22 ammo, including the el cheapo stuff. Also feeds the hot CCI Stingers, and every brand of .22 Match Grade Ammo available. It will also shoot itty bitty 1/2 inch 10 shot groups off of a sandbag at 25 yards. With several types of ammo.

It's made out of a solid piece of Aluminum bar stock and is CNC Machined. Mine has an awesome Factory Trigger, and Bomar style adjsutable sights. The gun is not cheap, it retails for around $800. But if you want a really accurate and really reliable 1911 in .22 LR, I highly reccomend the Kimber.

And if you want a cheap plastic .22 LR Pistol that works every time, buy one of the Ruger SR-22's
While its not near as accurate as my Kimber Match .22 Pistol, the Rugers are very reliable, fun to shoot, and priced right, also.

I have high regard for the Ruger SR-22 and have previously had two similar Walther P-22's ...

The only reason I am even considering a 1911 style 22 LR pistol is for 'practice' shooting
a 1911 more economically in 22 LR than 45 ACP.

The size, weight, dimensions, sights, etc. on the 1911-22 are the same as my Springfield 1911, 45 ACP.
But before I'd put $800 into a Kimber 1911 22 for practice - I'd just buy the 45 ACP ammo.

Otherwise, if I just wanted a good 22 LR pistol - I'd buy a Ruger Mk III.

A 22/45. A friend has a Kimber 22 conversion that he says works great.

The old 22/45 had a 1911's grip angle, but didn't really "feel" 1911'ish. The new ones do, IMO.

Same reason I bought my Kimber Match 1911 22 lr. I figured I saved enough money not shooting 45 acp ammo to pay for my Kimber. It's just like the Kimber I carry every day and also shoot in competition.

Have to agree with CHL...I have "several" 1911 .22s and .22 Conversions and the Kimber is one of the best.

Also have a Kimber .22 Conversion Unit that I use on the Kimber Stainless Target II .38 Super and it shoots just as good.

I recently bought one of the SIG 1911-.22s and it has been a good shooter. Only paid $260 for it used but in excellent condition.

ps...if you want to practice with a .22 1911 get a .22 1911...not the Ruger. The feel of the grip is close but the balance and controls are not the same...

i have the colt/walther gold cup 1911 22. it is a great gun. very accurate and likes all ammo i have used. rem golden, fed AE and champion. i have shot it about maybe 700 rounds and no failures. it was $400 and the govt model is around $370. no complaints here.

Go with the Kimber 22 conversion.
