I am happy with my Model 70 Super Express in.375 H&H but it is nice having a buddy that shares.

I gave up on big bores long ago though those that show up on second-hand racks after being fired few times disappear rather quickly. The ZKK 602/CZ550 Magnum and Winchester 70 Safari Express seem to be favorite dangerous game rifles of the working classes. The 10.75x73 was very popular in past largely due to relatively inexpensive bolt guns and ammo.

Back before leaving my firm, I spent 27 years as a Certified Public Accountant. Just about all my time was in "Family Wealth Transfer Planning" (estate and trust planning). I spent all that time watching spoiled "children" - I use quotes since most of them are waaaaay into adulthood - just waiting for Mom and Dad to kick so they could come into "their" inheritance. And frankly, most of them couldn't wait.

Monkey see, monkey do. Think I'll go have a banana for lunch.

technically more of a buffalo rifle. But works well with .470 Nitro bullets. I'm still working up loads with the big Woodleighs smile

You're ready for buffalo Tex. smile

It occurred to me last night, reflecting on the excellent Nilgai meat that Kaywoodie brought to the Quemado gathering, that I really ought to shoot one the weekend before the Campfire Hog Hunt, and take part of it to Tennessee grin

I prefer something with a bit of horsepower, like a 500 A2...707gr solid at about 2,250 fps.

If I had one of those the question would be, who would wind up with a worse headache, me or the elephant smile

I think a 500 at 2100 (assuming I can get it there) should be plenty for bufflers, Mbogos, and blue bulls... smile

Tex, actually, the 500 A2 isn't bad. Although pretty ugly, the Coil-Chek stock does a lot to mitigate recoil. The surface area of the recoil pad is probably double that of a typical pad, and the comb is rounded and straight. A 570gr brass CEB #13 solid is easier yet, and probably out-penetrates any bullet on the market.

I've shot a .470 Nitro, and a .577. Lovely rifles. The .470 isn't too bad. The .577 is a beautiful V-C that belongs to a member. I shot it and the first shot made my teeth hurt. blush

By the way, the .475 Turnbull shown weighs 9 lbs 1 oz, as shown with scope.

Very nice! I am partial to the A-Sq. rifles. Mine is on page 3, and I have a little brother to it in a .338 A-Sq. Oh, and I still have two boxes of the 707's left.

Then you would love that .600 Overkill with a 900 grain solid at 2400 fps. truthfully I didn't find much difference in recoil from the .500 Nitro

SW, I've had 3 different 600 OK rifles, 2 by Wayne at AHR and one from Bijou Creek. They are great rifles. Although you can, most folks don't load them up to 2,400 fps; 2,150 to 2,250 or so is about right and you don't need the big X-Brake hanging off the front of it like a grenade. Great Elephant rifle if you don't have to walk far, or have a tracker carry it. I had a 700 AHR as well, but between the weight of the rifle and the necessity of using the brake, it was a bit much for hunting.

With a chunk of nilgai loin and a case of Becky Creek, you'll be Boss of the hog hunt. grin

Awesome, I know we were shooting the 900 woodleighs with IMR4350 but would be surprised if were much over 2000 fps. I enjoyed shooting the rifle all except it had a very light trigger that kind of spooked me a little when dry firing before I shot it. The AHR's are very nice, I was impressed. He left the brake off but I liked how they designed to be unnoticeable when it was not on the rifle.

I have to admit though of all my buddies big big bore I probably liked the Merkel 500 Nitro best for comfort of shooting and handling.

I don't know if I will ever own anything over my 375 H&H but it's fun to test drive all the others. I have to admit I would like to try the 700 now having shot the 600 OK.

Gentlemen,

I telephoned BroadSword Group LLC who are the owners of anything A-Square, and found they have 500, 570gr. Dead Toughs and Solids left for sale. I purchased three boxes of the Dead Toughs.
You may contact them at:

so next year it's a case of Becky? I thought six bottles lasted us until the last day!

grin

I think I can get into a cow nilgai for not much money, so it might indeed be an option. Have to consult with our cookmeisters LT and Dan on what they think...
