I've had it in my head for a while now that I wanted a big bad boy caliber....I don't know why since I will more than likely never go to Africa to shoot something that big but hey I wanted one so what more reason than that do I need? After looking at the 375, 416 rigby and 458 lott I decided those were too common and I was asked to look at the 404 jeffery. After reading up on it and its place in African history I decided I wanted one. I started looking for them online but the price being asked for one was enough that I decided I would have one made for me instead of buying one used. I had discussed the project with my gunsmith and had found a donor and was looking for blanks for the stock before I ran into a deal I just couldn't pass up without the year and a half waiting time so i jumped on it. So here is my big boy gun in 404 jeffery. It is a CZ 550 Safari Classic. As i understand it the action is sent over from the Czech Republic where it is custom made here from that point. Please keep a look out for it in the classifieds after I shoot it :-)

Very nice! The 404J is certainly a really cool cartridge.

Nice set-up. The 404J shouldn't be too hard to take. Use ammo with the original 2,150 fps to start.

I was watching that auction on Gun Broker.

The auction ended but it didn't look like anyone bid?

Did you buy it?

Tico - classy round in a classy rifle. Makes me want to go out and have high tea with a watercress sandwich while binging on Downton Abby. LOL. All I've got is a blued steel & walnut Rem M798 in .458 Win. Enjoy it. Pip pip! Homesteader

Yeah. And a wrap around front sight, island rear, one standing one folding, a barrel band and matte finished. The " ingwe Special"

Or if you like slightly more Africa appropriate, how about a Mauser?

Though the Featherweight has been to Africa a bunch more than the Mauser wink

Mate, absolutely nothing wrong with what you've got. As for as killing elephants, the .458WM is up there with everything else...

You'll probably never NEED a gun. In fact I hope you never do. BUT IF you do, you will probably need it worse than anything you've ever needed before in your life...

I was fairly impressed when my son thumped this cull impala kneeling at 150'ish yards with an 8x57 of ours. The first critter to drop to the piece.
