Does anyone have a source for 20 gauge sabots used for shooting .45 cal bullets like the Hornady FTX? Any help would be appreciated.

ghope, check this out. try an unslit csd wadcup from ballistic products, itll take a .577 caliber minie and hold it tight, or a .56/.54 conical and holds them looser. If you check Magnum Muzzleloading products, you can probably find a sabot that you could glue into a csd wadcup and slit/trim the wadcup to fit how you wanted.

And tmitch is right but I didn't know they sold them for 20 gauge.

get a .44 solid from cutting edge bullets and load it hot and youll have a 20gauge that could really do some damage.

does that one discard? ah nevermind, I see that it discards on impact. id like one that discards once it leaves the bore.seems like it would be better if it didn't have to drag that plastic thing with it al the way to the target. but those still will make some cool loadings.

the 12gauge ones, it says they use ".50 caliber" but is that .500,.505, or.510 diameter? anybody know?

ghope, don't know what your goal is but a few years back I was playing with the 20 ga for a personal defense situations. Buck loads work, but 2 .530 gr RD balls in a federal hull using a 20S1 wad with buffer bottom, between them and top gave me a 1 -1+ oz payload depending on lead alloy of the balls. So in essence they were 2 ball loads in my little 20 ga 870 express with the imp cyl choke in, they would hold on a paper plate to 35 yds. A bud was working on a self defense load for his AK 12 ga and after watching the buck sometimes ricochet back off rr ties I came up with this idea. 20 is about the only ga you can make it work as on the larger ga the charge wt gets to heavy. Not that his AK12 wasn't neat but after showing him what 5 loads of my 2 ball shells would do at 35yds in 4 seconds offhand he just stared and didn't say jacksh*t for about 30 seconds until he counted the holes twice. He looked at me and said wtf? Them big balls was moving around 1150fps and no they didn't bounce off the rr ties. Maybe this will give you an idea or 2. Mag Man

Check out a company called Ballistic Products in Medina MN. They sell all kinds of shotgun reloading supplies including sabot slugs. Google "Ballistic Products" to find them.
