These boys of mine and their school buddies have deer on the brain so bad right now. Making loads, bragging rifles, looking at new trucks for the soon to be drivers.

Me, I am ready to go chase geese and ease gently into the great orange addiction...

Waiting for deer, did not elk hunt last year or this one. Needed to save the money. Did pick up the lumber for my new "portable stand". Pictures when finished.

whistle I am going to go out on a limb here. I am willing to sacrifice myself to take your place elk hunting so you can concentrate on the new venture. It's what friends do for friends - no need to thank me. Since I didn't draw in CO, it's a win-win. The boy will fill the freezer for you (if we strike out in CO, we can stop by Ryan's place on the way home and tag the one he's got leashed up in the pic above - Happy Birthday by the way). I don't see a downside. You in? smile wink wink smile

I am up at the lake place. Went for a run and almost got run over by a HUGE buck.

I am talking something you see on those high-fenced hunting shows.

I am still rifle hunting the usual spot on Upper Whitefish, but bowhunting at the cabin is ON!

Now if I could just shoot my bow decent beyond thirty yards.......

I just switched to a whisker biscuit from an old flipper rest, wow what a difference it made! my bow is quieter, arrows are faster and I don't run the risk of bumping my arrow off the rest. one pin out to 25 yards, gonna see how far I can shoot accurately this weekend, I'm gonna hunt me some open country mule deer this fall and I want to be ready!

Whisker biscuit, but it isn't the equipment. It's an acute practice deficiency. I worked on it this week at the lake.

wink

I don't know for sure since I've never used one but I have talked to guys at the range that say their whisker biscuits cause them to lose some accuracy after 30 yards or so.

I use a drop away rest because when I hunt the badlands, I like to practice out to 60 yards. They have their own deficiencies though. They can tend to add some noise and the timing has to be set just right.

Since I don't know when I'm going west again, I'm thinking of switching to a whisker biscuit for the same reasons Ryan listed above and all my shots from the tree stands around here are under 30 usually.

I've never shoot a deer with a bow at more than 25 yards, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I have a feeling I am going to see buckzilla at about 50 yards though. I won't take a shot I can't make EVERY time on the range.

I really like the Whisker Biscuit regardless. Especially when it gets really cold. I do try to use actual Blazer vanes with it, as it tears up the cheapie one's quicker.

I haven't even been able to shoot my bow yet. I have had a case of tennis elbow for the better part of the summer. Season opens in the middle of September too. frown

Dang Jim! you've had all kinds of bad luck

I took a doe at 35 a few years ago, last few have been 25 or less. Got out and shot last night and I'm a little under 3" groups at 35 yards. I'll get to the archery range this weekend and see if the groups open up at further distances.

Looks good!

I'm framing up our basement. So far I've built a bedroom with a large walk in closet for our 2nd oldest daughter. She is moving home while she attends nursing school. I finished the dry wall last night. Now its just to mud, tape and paint. Then lay carpet.
