Wow, there's that much hostility, that the RCMP is already getting shot at? I am guessing this Fubarfest has been going on for a long time, in one form or another?

Ever since the events in High River, Alberta last year the mounties are now held in pretty low esteem by a lot of Canadians. But not disliked to the point of shooting at them. That would have to be someone with a mental problem.

So here is a map of one of the eviction areas for sports fishing:
Map

And the notice from the Government:
Quote
Gitxsan Angling Notice:

The Gitxsan First Nation issued a press release on July 10 that indicates sport fishers are being served notice of eviction from their territories, effective August 4, 2014.
The ministry is concerned about the eviction notice and senior ministry staff are working with the Gitxsan in an attempt to resolve their concerns.
The Province considers the licences of guides, resident anglers and non-resident anglers to be valid. There is the possibility that anglers operating in the Gitxsan Traditional Territory may encounter protests.
The Province encourages all anglers to remain safe and respectful on the water. We have asked the Gitxsan leadership to remind their members of the same, and ensure any protests remain peaceful.
All British Columbians have a constitutional right to peaceful protest and to express their point of view in a safe and legal way.
Anglers seeking direction on what to do if they encounter a protest, or who wish to report any confrontation should contact the local RCMP detachment.

Prince George, B.C. There is a new development in the dispute between the Gitxsan Nation and the crown over Gitxsan lands being given to two other Indian bands.

A news release from the Gitxsan this afternoon states Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs of Gitsegukla and Gitwangak agreed to suspend evictions on August 8, 2014 until August 25, 2014 pending critical discussions between Crown, Kitselas and Kitsumkalum that may amend their Agreements in Principle.

The Gitxsan have been seeking, since June 2012 to amend the Agreement in Principle offerincluding removal of those lands to be taken from Gitxsan land tenure system and wrongly offered in treaties to the two Tsimshian bands. During this period the Gitxsan did everything we could to move this off the wrong track, to the right track that includes economic sharing of our lands with consent says Sagum Higookxw We still remain reasonable for tangible progress.

Earlier this week the Gitxsan served notice that they would be shutting down all railway traffic through their territory. CN Rail applied for and received a B.C. Supreme Court injunction barring anyone from trespassing on CN rail lines between Smithers and Terrace. The Gitxsan did not contravene the court order, saying they are law Abiding citizens.

Todays release states This activity to repel trespassers from Gitxsan title lands is pursuant to exclusivity required by the Supreme Court of Canda. The Gitxsan view these talks as merely symbolic gestures if CN does not withdraw their injunction says Gwaans, Beverley Clifton Percival, Negotiator, we have been and will continue to abide by the law.

It is a very positive move by the Crown to undertake to work diligently with Kitselas and Kitsumkalum to ensure that all parties in the situation are dealt with honourably stated Tenimgyat, Art Mathews The government being honourable is not a one-size fits all.

The Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs will maintain all camps on highways, railways and rivers.

Well this wasn't predictable....

Tahltan block moose hunt

Quote
A group of Tahltan Elders have set up a roadblock on Highway 51 between Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek to limit moose hunting in their territory.

It's in response to what Tahltan band chief councillor Terri Brown says amounts to unregulated hunting on Tahltan traditional territory.

Hunters come into our territory and just kill as many moose as they want, said Brown. Its not OK. We have been concerned that too many people come here to hunt moose without a proper understanding of our territory. Its a big issue for us because we have one of the longest hunting seasons in the province.

At the moment, there are only two provincial conservation officers for the area.

"There are so many reasons why we need to keep hunting under control," said Brown. "We have culture camps up there at the moment with kids playing and learning about traditional hunting practices and we want them to be safe. But we also need to control the situation to protect our environment and our traditions for today, for our children and for our grandchildren."

Highway 51 is considered a provincial highway but the Tahltan are saying it is a private road and not within the authority of the province.

With immediate effect, the Tahltan are asking members of the public wishing to traverse the road to obtain permission from the band. All members of the public that do not receive permission may be stopped, particularly non-Tahltan hunters, from trespassing on Tahltan reserve lands and using the road, a Tahltan press release issued this morning states.

Earlier this month, the Tahltan Band announced it was banning heavy vehicles from using Hwy51 without first getting permission from the band. It cited safety concerns as the reason.

The roadblock is the second one to be erected on Tahltan traditional territory within two weeks.

On Aug. 8, another group of Tahltan blocked access to the Red Chris mine which is owned by Imperial Metals and which is nearly ready to open.

The group says it's worried about how safe the Red Chris tailings pond will be in light of the failure of the Mount Polley copper mine's tailings pond in the Cariboo.

Mount Polley is also owned by Imperial Metals.

Anyone who likes hunting, wildlife viewing, the environment should be worried about this... these are big population declines...

A conference that was supposed to explore the dramatic drop in moose numbers in B.C. has been postponed after government scientists scheduled to speak had to back out, organizers said.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Spruce City Wildlife Association said experts slated to speak at its moose symposium in Prince George this weekend were told they're not allowed to discuss government business while the election is underway.

"So all the speakers, all the regional biologists, they could attend, but they couldn't say anything," said Jim Glaicar, one of the event organizers.

Glaicar says the conference will be rescheduled to sometime after the election, likely in June.
Moose on the decline
Organizers say the symposium invited biologists, hunters and conservationists, and was to explore the dramatic drop in moose numbers.

Last year, B.C. reported a 50 to 70 per cent drop in moose populations in parts of northern and interior B.C.

"From what we understand, it's a myriad of reasons, from food sources, to predators, to ticks. There's not one item that anyone has been able to tell us. So the purpose of the symposium was to find out what all those reasons could be," he said.

Glaicar says he is disappointed the conference had to be postponed.

"I don't believe it's fair, and there's no secret information. We weren't looking for future policies, future plans. We were looking for: 'Give us the numbers of moose and what your plan is.'"

In February, officials in Alberta announced that a moose that was killed by a vehicle near Medicine Hat tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

Last week, a young tick-ridden moose died after seeking food inside a Safeway grocery store in Smithers, B.C. Conservation officers said the hungry moose collapsed and died after being tranquilized and relocated outside of town
