Not to be making light of this issue but, looking at the symptoms, seems more like old age than plague.:(

Would you believe that article has 690 comments in the Boulder Camera? O, the passion!
We used to pick up dogs, a bucketful for the ranch cats. Never a problem.

It's not old age. A few years back we lost a couple of kids to the plague from p-dogs.

According to local new, it's presence has been confirmed in p-dog flea's flee's.

We won't be bringing any home.

But they are in such little pieces!?! I suppose I could use a needle nose pliers or a shop vacuum??

Huntsman, good question.

There are thousands of different species of flea's. During the 2004-2007 outbreak, primarly 3 species were found here in Colorado. Two were P-dog specialist, (Oropsylla hirsuta and Oropsylla tuberculata cynomuris) and the third was a generalist, (Pulex simulans).Pulex simulans is more closely related to the flea's most commonly on humans, (Pulex irritans), so it's more likely that simulans is the vector bridging the gap between p-dogs and humans.

In contrast, rabbit fleas are Spilopsyllus Cuniculi, and belong to an entirely different branch of the flea family.

And do the wittle bunny wabbits that hang out in occupied prairie dog holes, not get oralsyphyilitic hirsuta's and tuberculocitae cynicalmurisal's? And do the PD's in the rabbit infested holes not pick up their spiltsyphilus cunilingualcuti's? And do the coyotes that eat 'em both, not get either?

Now I'm more cornfuseder than ever.....

Pointy headed professors who think that naming things in a dead language make them more important.

Many flea are specialist, designed to live in one ecosystem, and each different species of critter is kind of like a different ecosystem. Same thing with many germ strains. There is a version of HIV that only infects [bleep], but doesn't kill them.

Talk about a bad day.

Ebola is related to West Nile, maybe you could end up with all three from one mosquito bite?

A few years ago I went coyote hunting in WY. Brought the pelts home and was drying them in the garage. The fleas abandoned ship and I had to set off bug bombs. The wife didn't think it was too funny. Never seen that amount of fleas on Colorado dogs for some reason.

The one thing the democrats did good for Colorado is making the place unfit for fleas to live there.
