Saw a long barreled Savage marked 1895 the caliber mark by the model name is 30 Savage and up by the receiver is Savage 30. The bore is really strong and the price is $459 negotiable.

The question is caliber the question, the strong has it marked 30-30 I was thinking 303 savage? What do you think?

Not an 1895, they were all 303 Savage. It's almost surely a first year 1899 with serial number between 15.000 and 19.000, which is when they were offering the 30-30 marked as 30 Savage. Winchester was selling the cartridge as 30 WCF, but Savage and Marlin balked at putting WCF on their rifles. After a few months Savage switched to 30-30.

What Calhoun said. Still might be a good buy depending on condition.

I might be off on the serial number range.. threw that out off the top of my head.

And, yep, agree with Skidrow. $459 for a first year 1899 in 30-30 with great bore isn't a bad price if it's got any condition. If it has a lot of condition, it's a very good price. Blue for the time would be a mirror finish that you can see yourself in, a matte blue means it's been redone. I presume 26" round barrel on it? Would make it an 1899A.

Yeah 26 in barrel, there isn't any original finish left on it at all.
