I'd like to take a Mannlicher Schoenauer 244Rem for Whitetail's this year.Would 85gr Nosler Partitions be OK? [img:center][Linked Image][/img]

Not with that POS! You will never find ammo for it. I will send you my dealer's info so it can be disposed of in a discrete way. You will never have to look at that eyesore again wink

But seriously the 85 NPT has downed piles of WT for me out of a 243. Toss them with confidence.

Just out of curiosity; what is the twist rate of the tube?

That 85 Part. is a deadly deer dumper.

Strangely Schoenauer changed the 244 to 1-9 1/2 twist before Remington did.My rifle was made in 1959.

With a 1:9.5 twist, you should be able to shoot any weight 6mm bullet. Though it says .244, it's really a 6mm Remington with that twist rate. But the 85gr Nosler Partition will kill anything you want to shoot with that rifle.

One of one of my few gun buying regrets is passing up a .243 MS at a steal of a price.

As to the 85 partition, I found the 85 tsx was more accurate in the two .243's I tested it in so went that route.

Why would one shoot a partition when a Barnes was available is beyond me.

But if the barnes won't shoot, the partition would likely be my next choice.

I am sure it is, I know the 95 gr is. Always thought it odd that they made 85's, 95's and 100's in 6mm.

In all honesty Jeff, I don't have much experience with TSX/TTSX but for the game I hunt (deer, bear, moose) from say 0 to 300 yards there isn't a more predictable, dependable killing bullet out there than a Partition.

Though I could be happy with a lighter for caliber TTSX going as fast as good accuracy allows IF Partitions became extinct.

I don't claim to be an expert on Barnes bullets but have killed truckloads of game with Partitions and I can't imagine how you could improve on the accuracy or killing power of a Partition...

I don't know why anyone would use Barnes or Partitions when a Ballistic Tip is all you need for deer, and they cost less

Same could be said of a lot of CnC bullets, which are cheaper than BTips . Options are nice.

Yeah.
Some seem to think if you don't spend for the latest technology, the deer become armor plated.

Deer, Moose, and even Black Bear are relatively easy to kill with most any good bullet as long as you put it where it belongs.

Too many try to use a high tech projectile to make up for poor shooting skills

And there are those who are smart enough to choose to use the best bullet they can. What do you use?

I'll take a partition any day!

I went last night and checked my stash and found 10 pieces of brass with load data for testing 85 gr partitions last year and cannot for the life of me find any notes about how they shot, speeds, etc.

Guess I'll load some more and try them again!

That's what happens sometimes when carrying 5-6 rifles to the range at one time.

Going to replace the 100 gr partition loads for deer since I've read so many good reviews on here.

I've killed deer with shotguns, handguns, rifles and bows, and have used a wide variety of bullet types, and they all worked as long as I put them through the vitals.

What's "smart" about spending more than you need, based on the false assumption that one costing twice as much must be twice as good?

I use whichever is the most accurate in a particular gun, even if it happens to be a patched round lead ball, since there is only one degree of "dead", and all of my guns will acheive that as long as I hit the "kill zone"

I have an old 6mm Remington in a 600 carbine. 85 Partitions shoot sub MOA (the only bullet that does in this rifle) It also often goes through caribou on side shots and demonstrates good killing power. What more do you need?
