Hunting season is approaching fast. I have a few 6.5 130 vlds in the hunting version but not enough to go out and practice. I can't find the hunting version anywhere.

Have any of yall shot animals with the target version and how did it perform? The toughest animal I would contact would be a Aoudad or large hogs. Im not worried about the hogs because they are usually ear holed.

Thanks

In Berger VLDs the ones specifically listed as target are tougher than the hunting version.

Guys are using target VLD and target hybrids to hunt. I've yet to hear anyone note the difference on game.

I may be mistaken , but I could almost see this as a good thing. I do prefer not to track anything and im not worried about the meat.

I believe the JLK VLD bullets are good for both hunting and target. I like the 130 gr in my 264wm at 3240fps.

Shoot for bone, and you're not going to be tracking anything.

I just picked up some today for my 6.5-284, planning on introducing a couple of antelope to them in October.

I hunted pronghorn with VLDs before a distinction was made between target and hunting VLDs. They worked fine.

Those were the softer version that are labeled target/hunting now. It's the later target versions that were toughened up.

Woodleigh makes a good hunting bullet there 160gr PPSN and it shoots well in my 264wm. 3 shot average is 3095fps. It is a much better hunting bullet than the Hornady round nose 160gr.
