I suspect it's partly because the .30/30 has been associated with "cheap" rifles for so long. When they were announced, I mentioned it to several of my customers who are fellow #1 nuts and the general consensus was "Why would I want a $1000 .30/30?" Kind of like when some hay-seed sees the tag on a high end rimfire and says "For a .22?"
