I just picked up a set of Leitz (Portugal) binoculars in a neat 7x35 size but Google seems to have failed me in getting much information. They look new but there was no box or case. The view is easy and relaxing despite these being pretty compact. What do I have? They don't look like present Leica models.

oklahunter: I had pair. They were a nice bin even if a bit fragile in some respects; the hinge on mine did not want to stay tight and I had to return them for repair. Eventually mine went out of focus...I gave up on them. All this took a few years of course. I used them quite a bit.

But when they worked mechanically they were a nice viewing binocular.

The Leitz are the older models that preceded the Leica Trinovid BA. A very nice sleek design and ahead of their time.
They are not phase coated, and the coatings are lesser, and so not comparable to modern fully multicoated optics, that means not as sharp and bright.

Are yours the leather covered or the rubber armor?

These are popular with collectors, and they should offer
you a nice view. Be careful with them, if needing repair
that will be expensive.

These have rubber armor and are marked "BA." I think the B marking refers to longer eye relief. If they are a collectors item I may move them along. I had not seen 7x35s as compact as these. Yes, I'd say they were ahead of their time.

I still have a pair of them. Love'em!!! The perfect size for easy carry. I carry the new ultravids now but these still hold a place in my heart. These were the definition of the sum being greater than the parts.

I use my pair on most hunts because they carry so well...and quite frankly don't give much of anything up with their image compared to more modern Nikon premiers and swaro slcs.

Nice binocs
