Only loaded six in case I had to pull them,but the first three went into about 3/4 in. Just tried the lowest load I could find of IMR 4895,seated to the max COL. Should be about 3300 fps,no signs of keyholeing ,so the 10" twist is at least adequate. Pics later when not on my phone. ********************** [the member formerly known as fluffy}

OP whipholt_wahoo Campfire Outfitter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 8,514 rice county,mn	there was some question whether the 62gr would work out of a 1-10 twist.barnes says it requires a 1-9 twist. there is no info for this bullet in the barnes manual for the 22-250,IIRC,due to COAL consideration. IIRC I loaded them to 2.3257,slightly over Max COAL,which IIRC,is 2.325 Now with those questions beginning to be answered,I can get on further down the line. by the way,the 62 gr tsx shot through the 8" ash tree the target is attached to. ********************** [the member formerly known as fluffy}

A 1:10 off the rack 22-250 is about as good as it gets and a 62 TSX is nothing sneeze at for deer and other similar sized game.. For the most part about the only time you need a high zoot BC .22 cal bullet is shooting paper, steel, rocks, gophers, coyotes, wolves, and seals at long range.. Right squirrel boy? I have Barnes 50's and 53's, haven't tried either in my slow twist .22-250. May have to load both just to see how they perform. We encounter hogs from time to time and the .22-250 is a great hog killer with most bullets, makes a great truck gun. I like the idea of using Barnes on hogs. DF

I have 50 rounds loaded with 60 gr. Ralph Council bullets, no blood drawn yet. They're hand made, primarily for BR shooting. My hunting bud killed 6 hogs on the Red River levee at his place, yesterday, with a heavy barrel M-70 .22-250 and Council bullets I loaded for him. He said those bullets hammered the hogs with good exit wounds. Some were shot in the head and neck, others thru the chest. All were DRT, now hanging in the cooler. Ralph said his bullets perform well on critters. Guess he was right. They are super accurate. DF

DF I decided to see if the 62 would shoot in the the 10" twist,(Barnes says it needs a 9")because one of the two deer we got last year with the 22-250, stopped a 53 tsx(loaded slow)at about 40 yards. I shot her quartering away,bedded,and the bullet lodged in the shoulder joint on the far side. recovered 53 gr tsx no exit my sons was a little high,but effective. exit I think the step up to the 62,and another 300 fps ,should be even more effective. ********************** [the member formerly known as fluffy}
