Hello Guys

I've recently acquired a "Low Wall" in 22 Hornet (the Miroku reproduction version). These are as rare as rocking horse poop down here so I count myself very lucky - its literally the only one I've seen for sale since 2006.

Because they are hard to get I'm planning to maximize my use of the action, and am thinking of doing a switch barrel in 260.

Would someone mind measuring their Lo-Wall 260 barrel to give me an approximate profile ??

Many thanks
Foster

OK - lots of views but no takers.

Maybe if I rephrase the question . . .

Does the barrel profile of the octagonal barreled Browing 1885 replica low-walls vary from calibre to calibre??

Thanks

Don't know the answer to that question, as I only have one that like yours, is a Hornet. The .260s are rare everywhere.

Are you sure that the LW is suitable for a switch-barrel rifle? I've never heard of such an animal and would think that such a deal would involve at the very least also changing extractors.

Comments on another recent thread threw a good bit of water on the switch-barrel concept. Unless you have some statutory restriction that limits the number of rifle you possess, it might be better to get your .260 another way. Winchester was recently selling a 6.5 Swede Low Wall that might do the trick.

You can look up Blacktail53. He has a 260 1885 Low Wall.

It's to my understanding that the barrel profiles are identical.

Extractor will be an issue.
It would be a costly venture. IMHO

Reloder28:

I was looking for an elk victim for my bow yesterday - no joy, but I did see 12 nice Blacktail bucks smile Two were really nice 4x4's ( 10 pointers, to you Texans ) both will easily make book. I'm hoping to find one of them to exercise that little 6.5 on this October!

Thanks Blacktail

Yes it would be costly but they are so rare down here and I want one that I can carry for deer etc (the one I have is a Hornet).

Cheers

Tentman,

I just checked the big three online auction sites that I like and didn't find anything of interest for you.

Winchester makes a low wall 6.5x55, but I've not seen one.
You might look for a dealer that could track one down for you.

The Brownings do come up for sale from time to time and were offered in .243 and .260.

There's a lot of "High Wall" versions out there that are in good deer range cartridges available.
