Are pillow cases big enough for an elk quarter? Do you guys use two (one from the top and one from the bottom) for each quarter?

It seems to me a hind quarter would be way too long and too wide to fit into a standard pillow case. Front quarters would easily fit in a pillow case but they would be way too long to 100% close the open end of the bag to keep out bugs and such.

Am I wrong here? I've never used them before.

My thoughts exactly Dog. It seems like it would take two standard pillowcases to cover an entire quarter. Actually a standard pillowcase seems like it would about right for a mule deer buck or caribou.

pillowcases will cover them all the way up to around the knee, which is as far as I need to go.

I put a drawstring (using parachord) in the hemmed end of the pillowcase to make it draw up.

now that I think about it, I've used them on one cow and two bulls. neither bull was HUGE, but one was a good sized 5x5.

I hope for a repeat performance in a month. smile

We used Grass seed bags. They are a woven plastic type material. Tough as hell just dont want to use them if you are hanging the meat to cool down. But for packing out on you shoulder or a pack they were the best thing we ever found. We also used some San Angelo game bags that we ordered from Bass pro I think they were breathable and fairly tough. Nothing beat the grass seed bags though and at a buck each they were a bargain. We have a grass seed farm close to home that would sell them to us every year.
