Well, yours truly has finally got back on the grid and like Mr. Stark I am ready to suit up and get to work beating up bad guys... That would be you guys in case you're having a slow day.
Everyone seems to be on board and making picks so I'll keep this post short. We all know the rules by this time and we'll work out any differences of opinion as we always have, between friends. Every week I'll let you know on this thread that the board is live and we're ready to pick. Making the transition from my tower to this tablet is giving my typing fingers a workout so I'm just going with one thread for the season.
But don't think I'm slacking. I've got some tasty morsels in the form of upset specials for this week so study up and don't let them sneak up on you.
Been a tough move. I'm well and truly into the north woods now and the pool had to be sneaked in the backdoor this year. I want to personally thank all of you for being patient and helping keep this little charity pool running. It is something I really enjoy.
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Man, coming off a crappy week last week. I do miss the good old days when I could watch football every Saturday. I'll be cutting wood Saturday, hoping to catch the AZ game.
Indiana at Bowling Green- BG expecting good things in MAC play this year, allowed 50+ points to a pretty good WKU team. Nice tune-up last week against Virginia Military, should be ready for an improving Indiana team, but can they stop that beast running back? Indiana
WVU at Maryland- Well, the mountaineers could score on Bama. Maryland struggled to beat a crappy USF team last week, but a big part of that was 6 turnovers or however many they had. I like coach Edsall, I kindly doubt the Terps are as bad as they looked last week. And they killed WVU last year. Revenge spot for the 'Neers? Hope so. Towson is a good 1-AA ball club. Let's go with West VA
'Cuse at Central Mich- Couple crappers, Syracuse struggled week one with a good 1-AA ball club. They're coming off a bye and will probably beat Central Michigan but Cent Mich is supposed to have a good year (for them). Let's gamble on the Chippewa's
Louisville at Virginia- Good things expected out of VA this year, had a good game with UCLA (overrated). Still, the Cards have looked good so far with Petrino back. Gotta take the Cards.
Georgia at South Carolina- Screams trap game to me, everyone and their brother is on Georgia and I'm gonna do the same but preseason had the line -3 Cocks and they will want to win this one at home. Toss up, I'm taking Georgia off the bye.
Arkansas at Texas Tech- This is another one, gambling community all over the Hogs this week. I like them too but the Red Raiders at home suck to bet against but they have not looked good this year. Hogs
Iowa St at Iowa- BORING. Iowa football is so boring, they'll play down to anyone's level. Classic rivalry (for the state of Iowa, that is ) , Cyclones took K State to the wire last week. They always play Iowa hard. I love state to cover the spread, but am taking the Hawkeyes to win.
North Cackalacky St at South FLorida- Another bottom feeder bowl, I can't back USF especially with their QB out. NC State is no powerhouse though, even USF should be able to score once in awhile against NC State. Still, last week's Old Dominion win is better than what USF has done. NCST Wolfbait
UCLA at Texas- Brother. UCLA is very overrated in my opinion, Hundley has not impressed me at all the few times I've watched him. Bruins will go down, but not sure Texas will do it. Ash out indefinitely. "Must win" for the Longhorns and Strong...but so was last week. UCLA.
Penn St at Rutgers- Another coin flip, I hate betting on a Big Ten football team but they have a good QB who led a game winning drive against a good/decent UCF team. Defense held a decent Akron team to 3 and that was a big letdown spot for the Lions. Rutgers has no defense, and I can't hang a pick on Nova. Gamblers all over Rutgers this week BTW, I don;t see it. I like Penn St here.
I'm a stones throw away from taking Miss State. And I believe ClemPson is ready after putting up 73 against a good SC State defense. FSU was struggling with the deep ball when they had Jamis in the game.
Tigers need to get their freshman QB in this game. I predict he is the difference maker.
I went with Clemson. Don't like doing it but I had too much chalk this week, figured this was as good a time as any. Struggled to pick 3 upsets and I'm not betting against AZ.
6 of us went went with the Tigers. I actually feel pretty good about the pick. Line is down to 10.
Unless something really weird happens there could be a ton of 9 & 1's, and 8 & 2's. Even 10 & 0's. But I still think we are due for a major upset like MSU over LSU.
rut-roh-----GA Tech over Va Tech could be one of those weird things I was talking about. Wreck just took the lead.
After watching FSU beat Okie State, I'm just not that impressed with FSU. IMO, there's a few SEC teams that would probably stomp em. I think Oregon and OU could probably beat em as well.

Well the games are. And if I may say, there are some tough games in there. And some irresistible upset specials. I admit it, I've already taken a nibble on a couple.
Appal. St. has beat GA South the last 3 years....yet are still underdogs...
Is that at the Texas State Fair? I had an older relative on Mom's side (well, by marriage) who stood sheepishly while another shirt-tail relative told how much money he had lost trying to beat the chicken.

Happily Trapped In the Past (Thanks, Joe)
Not only a less than minimally educated person, but stupid and out of touch as well.
2-0 so far, Ga Southern and UCLA came thru for me. Hundley looked pretty good against gAySU:)
Struggling to find dogs I like enough to gamble on this week.
Tennessee at Georgia: Dogs better not be flat against a talented but young Vols team. Like the Vols at +17 but I think Bulldogs pull out a win.
Arkansas at TAMU: Boy Arkansas is recovering, finally, from the loss of Petrino. Good run game, but I have to take A&M. The whooping they put on the cocks is too much for me to go against. Gambling community all over Ark this week. I like Aggies.
Minnesota at Michigan: Crapfest, what a tumble Michigan has taken. I'm almost broke up over it as an Irish fan. Almost They need to win one at home, they should get it from the gophers. Michigan.
Stanford at Washington: I'm disappointed about what I've seen the Huskies, I expected Petersen to have them overachieving. At Hawaii they were without their starting QB. Easter WA is a good FCS program. FCS being the key word there, and that was a shootout. Their Illinois win was most impressive but unfortunately, not sure how impressive that is. Stanford lost a close one against SC, their other victories don't tell us much other than the defense looks stout. Honestly I liek Stanford here, but I have to take a dog at some point. Come on Huskies!
Mizzou at South Carolina: Boy, what a letdown losing to Indiana last week. Jerks, had Mizzou as one of my ML locks. Cocks tried to sleep thru what started out to be an attrocious Vandy team but pulled thru. Mizzou can definitely win this game. I think the Cocks will win it, but I'm gonna gamble on Mizzou.
Boise St at Air Force: Air Force supposed to be much improved, this was a shootout last year for a half. I have to take the Broncos though.
Duke at Miami: I hate Miami. I hope Duke wins. They may very well. I like Miami and I really can't explain why.
Oregon St at USC: WTF USC, losing to BC? Glad it happened, I also hate USC but I think they are on the upswing again and handle the Beavers. USC 31-14.
As you can see, I like all chalk. I liked all chalk last week too but forced myself to take some dogs. Wrong dogs. I changed my picks a few times this week. Taking Washington and Mizzou, should probably be taking Duke, Minnesota and Arkansas instead. Good luck this week fellers.
tis evident to me, you don't fear the Bob nearly enough.
that could prove costly my friend
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
maybe MO will resort to form of many years ago, lose games they shouldn't and win ones they shouldn't as well.
though I'm not inspired by what I saw as the outcome with Indiana (for Gawd's sake, they play basketball there NOT football, (grin)
I'll be pullin for those Tigers as per usual, but I won't be bettin on them!
btw David, are you beating Bob so far in BTP? that's really the only stat that matters yaknow!
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Well this week's games are up and they look nasty. Man this is the hardest one yet. And we have 4 SEC games as well so you southern lads should be living large.
Foxbat is out to an early lead. Gonna have to get it in gear and make my run at him early this season. Don't forget we drop one week when you're checking the standings and plotting strategy.
Well this week's games are up and they look nasty. Man this is the hardest one yet. And we have 4 SEC games as well so you southern lads should be living large.
Good luck boys, you're going to need it lol.
Will
Ha! Not even close. I might just hit the he random button this week.
I love my Rebels but it's been a long time since we beat AL. Mainly because they weren't any good then. AL may not be as good as some of those NC teams but they can hang with anyone. Then again the OM Defense can hang with anyone, but can the O put up points?
I know State can beat A&M...but will they? Are they for real? Maybe. That LSU win could be lose some of it's shine before it's all said and done. A&M keeps finding ways to pull out the W.
LSU is going with the young guy at QB who can sling it. Maybe that's all they need to right the ship & Auburn looks pretty much like they did last year...good.
in the bottom seven you're numero uno with a bullet!
FEAR THE BOB!
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Only way Miss. St. will defeat the Aggies is if they knock Kenny Hill out of the Game!
"Allways speak the truth and you will never have to remember what you said before..." Sam Houston Texans, "We say Grace, We Say Mam, If You Don't Like it, We Don't Give a Damn!"
Lol, this week I feel like Les Stroud with a handful of grub worms. He's gonna eat them. He'll probably smile and tell you it ain't half bad. But you gotta wonder if he'd sneak a Big Mac if nobody was watching.
Actually, SC is very regional as it relates to BBQ sauce. All 4 are prominently used according to location and taste. Personally, I do not care for mustard based BBQ sauce BUT if you like mustard you will.
From SCBA, which is the Palmetto State BBQ competition circuit.
There are generally considered to be four types of barbeque in the country and they, by and large, are broken down by the type of sauce use in basting and also as a finish sauce, used when the barbeque is being served. Those four, in order of historical emergence, are Vinegar and Pepper, Mustard, Light Tomato and Heavy Tomato. And while there is always disagreement on the varieties of preparation, such as whether one should use a dry rub or a wet rub and various other culinary arguments, all of the many sauces used in America generally will fall into one of those four basic groups.
North and South Carolina share three of the four types of barbeque sauce that Americans normally use. But only South Carolina is the home of all four.
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Utah St at BYU- Utah state replaced almost their whole offensive line this year, and Chuckie Keaton has not been himself. He's out now for the year which is a bummer but I don't think it matters. Garretson started 8 games last year and did pretty well. Defense allowing too many points. BYU seems to have a solid team this year, this is a good rivalry game but I think Utah St is going to have trouble winning it. Mormons.
TAMU at Mississippi St- Great win the bulldogs at LSU 2 weeks ago, but favored over A&M? I think Miss St may very well win this one too off a bye, Aggies have such a brutal schedule and are going to wear down. I don't know who to take here. Changing back and forth. Final answer, Bulldogs.
No. Cackalacky st at Clempson-Clemson needs to make something of their season and they came out with a win last week. Good for them. NCST has to be devastated after last week. I think they come out flat. Stupid Clemson.
Oklahoma at TCU- Love coach Patterson but not ready to side with the Christian school just yet. This has been a good game last couple years though. I have to take the Sooners though.
Alabama at Ole Miss- We'll find out the skinny on both teams this week. Ole Miss hasn't really played anyone though, we'll see just how stingy their defense is. I think this is a repeat of last year. Lot to a little, Bama.
Tree at Irish- You won't catch be picking against Kelly and Golson. Homer pick, Irish.
Texas Tech at Kansas St- That Red Raiders defense will keep anyone in the game. K State will take advantage of that. Give me Bill Snyder at home against a crappy defense, please.
LSU at Auburn- LSU starting a freshman Qb at Auburn, they can't win. You'd be stupid to bet on Crazy coach Miles and a freshman against powerhouse Auburn. I'm doing it anyway. Tigers!
Huskers at Sparty- I hate betting on Nebraska in a big game but they have owned Sparty in "big" "ten" play. I'm pulling for them anyway, may as well pick them. NEB
Utes at Southern Cal- Cougars caught Utah looking forward to this game I think. I'm pulling for Utah and I can see them winning but I like USC here. 24-21 trojans. Dumbass
Utes at Southern Cal- Cougars caught Utah looking forward to this game I think. I'm pulling for Utah and I can see them winning but I like USC here. 24-21 trojans.
I Guarantee that the Trojans Will Not win against Utah this weekend...
Whoah! Haha, I think you're right. This hangover isn't treating me well, celebrated a big win last night!
Let's try this again, with an actual matchup:
Utes at U of Cal-Los Angeles: Hundley looked great against the salad forks last week. Bruins finally playing well? They were looking pretty overrated until last week. Oregon on deck, hope they don't try and sleep thru this one. I think they will. Lackluster win, 27-17 ucLA
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
but happy to see the Cards just now tie it, LA is gonna be demoralized if St. Lou wins this one too
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Bob's ok though, he appears to have a lock on 3-7 for the week.
really pretty good showing for him considering all the upsets.
who wins BTP this week? anyone lucky enough to go 5-5??
madness I tell ya, madness
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
Heh heh - Just sent off my next week's choices to Will, and naturally I picked a couple of Utah games just for you. It was worth it just to hear you weep.
Just kidding - if any Utah games show up do not blame me.
just for the record, isaac is kicking the chit out of Kamerad Les in BTP
ole Les is 2 games below .500 without even picking all the games
where Bob is smack dab at .500
yep that's right suckas Bob is right as often as he's wrong!
FEAR THE BOB!

or did you mean the last second field goal by Lambert to make WVU the winner?
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
I really, really, really want to take the Hokies tonight but.....
**sigh**!!
Yeah I pussed out as well and took Miami. I had the Hokies picked and changed it. We'll see.
Miami at Va Tech- Two piles of crap, I want to take the pile at home. I feel like Miami is probably the better team... I have Miami selected at the moment.
BYU at Boise- I'm down on Boise this year. Taysom Hill is out, they are pretty banged up with most of their RB's hurt and they let Nevada come back but I still think the Mormon defense hurts Boise. Probably a stupid pick. Mo's.
Texas at K State: Longhorns D may keep them in this one and offense is showing signs of life but I can't take them against K State at home.
Maryland at Wisky- I'll gamble on a team that can score points against a team that can only run the ball, and only sometimes.
WVU at Ok St- Man, cowboys got their asses handed to them last week. I like the 'Neers here.
Mich at Mich St- Michigan not worth a bet
Zona at Wash St- Suspect pass D so Cougs are a live dog but the Cats are looking good overall. Hope they bounce back and thrash the cougars this week. Better team, better coach, still have a shot at the conference title. Homer pick: Bear Down Arizona!
Ole Miss at LSU- Bet against the Tigers in Death valley? Ole Miss looks like the real deal and LSU's beatdown of Kentucky last week isn't convincing enough. Defense travels, Rebels!
Ohio St at Penn St- Buckeyes in "Big" "Ten" pla, auto-bet. Plus Hackenburg has been super disappointing as of late. Can't take them.
USC at Utah- Pulling for the Utes but I'm not sold. Travis Wilson pulls his head out Utes may very well get the win. But I dunno. 31-17 crappy Trojans.
Haha, I can do 1-9 but am optimistic that I'll win at least ONE more to be 2-8 with you guys:) Tempted to take Texas with the Wildcats off a big win and Texas improving with a good defense.
And I'm pulling for Utah, maybe I should take them too... probably won't though. I'm sick of changing picks and am pretty much out of the winner's circle.
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
it appears to me that ole Foxbat likes that number 1 spot
he seems to be determined to get right back up there
am thinkin the guy can pick em
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
and that seems to be the result of that pick for you, gotta go for the upset somewhere
ole man Darby seems to be trying to convince you guys that it's more than coincidence that he's up on the totem pole
but you got these guys right where you want em David.
they're so busy fearing the Bob, they ain't gonna see you sneak up on em these last few weeks. Good strategy

Winston always has that idiot dazed look when he's about to receive the snap. Appears nobody is home, with that blank stare. I think he's just a frickin idiot. Probably has an IQ of 80, if that.
Go Louisville !!!
"Allways speak the truth and you will never have to remember what you said before..." Sam Houston Texans, "We say Grace, We Say Mam, If You Don't Like it, We Don't Give a Damn!"
He just threw a INT! Be runny if they get smoked by the 25 ranked Cardinals!

Hell yea!!! Card's are up 21 to zip over the Noles!

Always rooting for you, well in between poking you in the ribs
You have us over a barrel
How can we not root for josh?
Wish him and your 18 year old the best of luck

I had my "way to go Duke stick to basketball" post all ready to go. Maybe I best save it. But Duke's losing makes a great case for Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
Seems these guys play the same movie every single year.
Nice win by Duke. Can't believe Pitt did now know what was coming.
That game really did break my heart and I don't even have a dog in this hunt. Just wanted it for the state and alum of WVU. As well as you and Bob!! The folks I meet that bleed blue and gold are genuine.
You know that we lost and it is hard to take, but WVU lost. Doesn't matter that we should, could of won, but we didn't. One of my friends said "Well Josh won it in overtime last year and Oberkrom missed". Oberkrom did win it this year, but he didn't miss. I'm glad Josh didn't miss, but I really hate our team didn't win.
Man what can you say? 16 weeks and Joe and EWC tie up. Man what a show you boys put on. I bungled the tie breaker. Joe and EWC both won going ofF what I set up versus what I said I would do.
Sorry about that. I'm a dope at times. But a fair minded one.
Co-winners it is. Both of you get the winners prize: 50 dollar prize and a 50 dollar charity donation.
We'll see how the bowl bonanza turns out. Maybe I can get back in the mix. It is set up and I'll have a thread up in the next day or so. I have weighted games, all bowl games included, and you can change any game up till it's kickoff. Take a look and start studying up. The Penguin is ready to rumble.
I actually had a decent year this time. I also had a few awful weeks that eliminated me from contention but it was still fun and I reckon that's all that matters.
Thanks Will.
7MM-Nail, 2X weekly winner of "Beat the Penguin" 2014....
I can't speak for you guys but I have to say I'm happy to see the regular season over and the bowl bonanza starting up. Man I got thumped this season. Now with the move and the New job in the rear view mirror I can start concentrating on important things like the bowl games. :p
I think a good butt kicking is just what you boys need. I'm feeling my oats and ready to step in the ring.
Will, as always, thanks so much for the fun. Looking back, I am always impressed with some of the completely stupid picks that I made. Looking forward to the Bowl Pool.
