Turkey is flexing it's muscles. They want to be the big dog in the ME and by refusing the US's request, they show their strength to the rest of the Muslim nations.
They barely tolerate us, even though we have kept the Russians out of their yard for the past seventy years.

Turkey is Muzzy to the core and not our friend or ally.
If I know that, wonder what's going on in D.C.?

They lost their right to be big dogs in the ME during WWI, when they were known as the "Sick Man of Europe".
They're really afraid of us arming the Kurds, whom they've always been fighting. They should've been prosecuted for war crimes after that war, for the slaughter of all those Armenians.

While ISIS is an authentically evil bunch, it's likely that the Turks understand the hanky-panky that's going on between the US, Israel, and ISIS.

Well if there is any truth to that POS being cared for in a hospital in Turkey, then we should be considering Turkey as a enemy. Once we start laying the pipe to ISIS, they are all going to head for the border anyway.

Turkey and the US run an uneasy alliance. They want our help getting them into the EU, we need them due to there strategic locale and secular government.

I'd arm the Kurds to the hilt and let the Turks sit back and be pizzed. Those Kurds are a tough bunch and with some modern weapons, they'd be a force to contend with. And, Turkey knows that and is fearful that may happen.
So, Turkey, you're either with us or the Kurds are our new friends...

DF ISIS had changed many things including Turkey's opinion of the Kurds. They make a handy buffer zone between Turkey and ISIS.

DF ISIS had changed many things including Turkey's opinion of the Kurds. They make a handy buffer zone between Turkey and ISIS. With proper equipment, those Kurds would be a lot more than a buffer zone. They'd be causing havoc on both borders, with ISIL and Turkey. To me, that should be a bargaining chip to make Turkey toe the line, make them a deal they can't refuse... DF

Don't know about now but in the past most of the Kurdish groups fighting Iraq were Communist.

The more radical Kurds are to Islam, in large part, what radical Islam is to western civilization.
The U.S. has long known of atrocities committed against the Kurds by various Islamic powers. We only care when the Kurds have something either to offer us, or if defending them in some way dovetails with broader foreign policy aims.
There have always been Islamic radicals, but they were never mainstream, nor had they any real broad influence until America's "friend for a day" foreign policy united broad grassroots support for them. Indeed, most of them lived in exile whilst their less radical countrymen sucked up to our foreign policy perks...
America has long needed to choose our friends and to stand by them. Our current foreign policy machinations most resemble a breakdance competition...
