Subject line says it all.....I'm interested in finding a light-weight Commander (true Commander length 4.25" slide). I believe Para makes ones, but others?

Sig C3 is a lightweight Commander. I carry one everyday.

As are Wilson, & besides, they all have bull barrels without a bushing...........none of the bushing-less guns qualify, IMO.

On the high-end side, Guncrafters, Christensen Arms, & Nighthawk all make true 4.25", bushing-barrelled LWT guns.

Here's my favorite LW Commander and every day carry gun for the last 5 years.
It's a Kimber Custom Shop Super Carry Pro with the round butt frame & Night Sights.
Uber Accurate & Super Reliable. I think they run about $1300 new nowadays.

Going to show my ignorance here. What is sub-par about a bushing-less gun as long as it is accurate?

Nothing. No difference. But to some there is some sort of mystic quality to the original Colt design.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Most people tend to disagree when I say I can't appreciate Colt anything.

Hardly. You're trying to tell us that John Browning, who was long dead (died in 1926), designed a 4.25" barrel, aluminum-framed pistol for sale in the 1950's?

Lots of people make commander-sized 1911s. My current favorite is the Dan Wesson Guardian.

I don't think that there's anything "wrong" with it, but it's not a pure 1911 design, absent the barrel bushing & I do believe the OP was referring to a standard 1911 design with his question & comment re: a 4.25" barrel.

They will work just fine in most cases & about the only thing that could happen is that the slide & cone area is a little harder to fit up than a bushing & now you have a different wear part. If accuracy isn't what you want & you can attribute it to the barrel fit, it may not be an easy thing to correct.

The biggest issue for me personally, is that the bushing-less guns are a royal PIA to disassemble when compared to the standard gun with a barrel bushing.
