SO give me the skinny on the 150-600.... I hear really good things...

I want to hear (or see) stuff from the people who use it...

The owl and the bear were on a tripod. The deer is handheld, 600mm, 1/60th of a second!

I have the Tamron 150-600, but have not rung it out yet.

As a side note, Sigma just announced a 150-600 in two versions. The Sport should be the better of the two.

I am curious to see how they do with that lens, remember I am probably biased. It is pre-ordering at $1999.

Yes, some interesting announcements for Photokina: Nikon D750, 20mm f/1.8, Sigma 150-600, Tamron 15-30 f/2.8. I did not notice a new version of the Canon 100-400.

Damn... The owl and the fawn are outstanding.

I carry 3 lens into the back country. If the 150-600 is "all that" then I'd be down to 2 lens and a considerable amount of weight less.

Could you elaborate on the setting and focal length on those 2

Jason, check out Tamron's website to see if the Tailgate Tour is going to be near you at a camera store. I am not sure where in south Texas you are but I know the tour will be in Arlington and I don't know how far New Orleans is but they will be there.

Both the owl and the fawn were shot at 600mm. The fawn was at 1/60th of a second, the owl at 1/80th of a second. The owl was from a tripod and the fawn was handheld.

The closest big city would be San Antonio. I'll look it up..

Will that Tamron lens auto focus on a D5000? I have a 170-500 that won't.

Don, it should. I have read several forums that confirm that. It does have an Ultrasonic focus motor built in so all indications I see are that it will.
