Anybody here used them?

I'm thinking about the Izula2 for the man-child. Started looking at the RAT3, but think it might be a bit large after googling pictures of it online.

Yes-No?

I think Mannlicher has had a few of those knives. He'll be along directly, I expect.

I ordered a Zancudo on Mannlicher's recommendation. It should be in the mailbox when I get home. Will be an addition to my EDC lineup.

I have three ESEE knives a candiru, an izula original (not 2), and an esee-3. The 3 is a lot bigger than an izula. The izula is a real nice utility knife. I carry it all the time when home. Use it for a variety of tasks and haven't felt the need to sharpen it yet. It should be a pretty good choice for a boy IMO.

Eric, RAT knives, a licensed offshoot made by Ontario, are different than knives from ESEE. Same basic design, same 1095 steel, different manufacturer. ESEE knives are all made by Rowan Mfg, in Idaho.
I think you are right in looking at the ESEE Izula or Izula II, or even the smaller Candiru model are just the right size for a lad. Great steel, the best heat treat in the industry, life time warranty, perfect size, and just great knives.

I've got 3. I carry the 3 every weekend. The 6 is used for hiking. The 3 in staghorn I bought to be a safequeen for now.

I really love the 3 the most. As you can see, I put my own ironwood scales on it, with a custom sheath.

I love the blades on esee's but I don't like the flat scales. If esee knives had becker scales I would own one of every design. I have also heard the esee's heat treat is the best, and that is a huge part of a blades durability.

Sam, I've got a RAT knife I got from my nephew a while back. What do you about the heat treatment on those relative to ESEE?

You can order an Esee blade from The Knife Connection with their (TKC) scales. Best of both worlds!

Ontario does not make junk at all, but I believe Rowan has the edge. I have an older Rat3, and it has given excellent service for years. I have an older Rat7 in D2, that I feel is a better knife than the ESEE 6.

ESEE-6, ESEE-3 and Izula 2.
Have sold the 3 since this picture was taken and purchased an earth-colored Izula last month.
The -6 and the Izula 2 will always be with me.

Izula 2 is where it's at!
I had cut a whole bunch of wood with this the day before. I chopped with it, batoned with it and generally abused it. A few minutes on a quality strop brought it back to tomato and tenderloin slicing shape.

I have an ESEE 4 and a 6.... love them both. Use the 4 the most but carry the 6 from time to time....

For the quality and design I think they are VERY hard to beat for the money.

It's my beater knife. Doesn't hold a sharp edge for long, but sharpens up easily/quick. Very durable & my most used knife.
