I have a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm scope with a wide duplex. As a ranging device, what is the distance between the crosshair and the thick post at various distances?

Thanks,

P

The wide duplex is too wide to have much use as a rangefinding reticle, unless you are shooting WAY out there.

My catalog does not show the 3.5-10 as available with the "wide duplex." Did you special order it?

You can figure it out by using it to view a grid target at a carefully measured distance.

I've done that, and found the WD perfect for ranging elephants out to around 150 yards.

Seriously, just do a grid check and you'll have the MOA figure for the center to post dimension.

Mathman is pointing you in the right direction....100yds...target with 1" grids....look through scope and breakdown the W I D E reticle to get an approximate MOA between the thick and center point. Do it at the difference mags of your scope as well for a birthday present to youself grin

Yeah......Wide Duplex for ranging? Hilarious!

Those things suck. smile Might as well have cross hairs. grin

I have no idea why Leupold brought it out...except to force us into the Custom Shop for a matte finish, duplex 4X or 6X scope, and charge us a fee in the process....annoying. mad

Really, why not ask question before, you do things like this.
If you knew what you wanted, then great. I'm all in with you. But, to buy something then ask how does it work--? Sorry to me that's crazy!!

Bingo! I had e-mailed Leupold about getting the Boone and Crockett ret
installed in my FX-3 6X42 I was informed that it could not be done on my fixed 6 but I could get the LRD dotted installed.
I asked if the LRD was also their Wide Duplex ?
Yep

You need to learn the rule for assuming:

Wait for it...

When you ASSUME:

U

get your

ASS

kicked by

ME.

I have a rangefinder. It's nice to know, however, that at 100 yards the distance from crosshair to post is 19.2 inches. Yeah, I asked Leupold, since all I got here was dumba$$ "7-P" type responses. I'll bet you waited your whole life to post that on the internet.

So if I'm sighted dead on at 200 yards and the buck is 400 yards out, I'll know how much elevation I need to make the shot.
