I love catching Brook trout. They have some of the best colors of all the freshwater fish. Here is a Brown Trout I caught in spawning colors.

Also, ingwe, I see you and ingwe wife use spinning tackle.. I need a couple spinning reels.. What is your favorite? You use the same one on pike???

Nope, we don't eat the browns. Ingwewife likes brookies..I don't eat any fish with fins. And yes we use spin tackle, and I do use the same tackle on pike. My fave is a 5.5 ft. ultralight with an Shimano 750 Sedona on it. This is filled with #10 fire line and used for everything. The fire line has no stretch so you are able to set the bigger hooks into pike.As for the #10 line, its only 3 lb. diameter, and you'll break the rod long before you break the line. Landing them on a UL takes no longer in my opinion, and is a lot easier to wield on a long 100+ pike day.
For rods I prefer shimano but have used WW Griggs,Fenwick and a few others. ( Yes, I DO take spare rods when pike fishingand need them once in awhile!) The Sedona for a reel has been greatI would buy the next step up in Shimano if they made one that sizebut they go to 1000 in the better reels, and I just plain don't need one that big.

Same one was used to catch these pikelast month.

Winmodel70, I think I caught the cousin to your fish a week ago.

Ingwe, I think you married above your pay grade. That is a great fish and a pretty lady. I know a pretty blonde when I see one. That's why I married this one.

Those are some nice trout. I miss fishing in the Cascades, particularly Slide Lake in Washington. The views were amazing and the hike to the lake was awesome. We caught Cutthroat trout that were 4 and 5 lbs back in 1986 to 1990. I have lost all of those pictures moving from military base to another. Here in Tennessee I'm addicted to catching these monster Brown trout. Yeah, my zipper is down and it's the only pic I got of this one. [Linked Image]

Dude! You are getting it done in TN! Id like to catch a few like that in Montana! ( actually we do, but they are pretty few and far between...)

There are absolute giants in this river. A slot limit was put in place 4 to 5 years ago and the trout fishing has improved 10 fold. There are more and bigger fish because of this slot limit. 20+ pounders are seen with regularity, but they rarely bite.

I enjoy seeing the pics you guys post. Brings back fond memories of trout fishing in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and parts of Montana. One of my favorite places was in Idaho fishing for Cutthroats in Rapid Lightening Creek using spinning gear and a Daredevil. Just about every cast a trout was on. I can't wait to back out west to do some hunting and fishing.

Are you doing any night fishing? The big ones are a bit more 'available' then...( not that yours aren't big enough! wink )

WinModel70, Duuuude! I mean that most respectively. That is my idea of a great brown trout! What did you catch it on? How much did it weigh? I'm a little green with envy.
