As the topic suggests, I am thinking about getting my RWS 48 .22 cal tuned. What should I be looking for and who would you recommend to do the job and why? I will primarily be using it for plinking and hunting. Thanks in advance for your input/insight.

Not a good idea to tune it? Opinions welcome.

Somebody on the "yellow" forum can probably help. http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/

I've thought about it several times but $300+ to do it usually puts me back into the 'wait till it breaks' mindset. There are some youtube videos on how to do it yourself. Maybe take a look and see if it is something you want to tackle.

Some "tuners" will just slap some tar and moly on a few parts and call it a tune. That much you can pretty easily do yourself.

Thanks for all the insight guys. I agree that $300+ will make you think, but with the current price of .22 rimfire I think the investment may now make sense. I am looking for a full tune by someone with the reputation for doing good work. All suggestions are appreciated, and I will check out the web sites mentioned. I did google Rob Hawkins, and his site looks very promising.

Call Rob too, he will tell you what he thinks and take it from there.

Just an update.....
I did send my gun to Rob to be tuned. What a difference. I can't believe it is the same gun. Well worth the money spent.

Now, I need recommendations on a decent scope. Have a Bushnell 4-12 on it currently, but think it deserves more in its new life.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's hard to beat a Leupold 3x9 EFR. I've got one on my Theoben and love it.

The leupold is top shelf, a good budget alternative is the Nikon Prostaff Target EFR ~ $180, nice glass - holding up well on my R9.

Thanks Centershot,
I looked at the Leupold, but wanted a matte finish. I had a recommendation for a Hawke varmit, so ordered it last week. It will be December before I get a chance to try it, but will try to update when I get to the range.
