Marlin "XL7" action with 26" Mcgowen savage magnum contour barrel with Harrel's brake. Vortex Midway 5-15x44 Mil/Mil scope. No rifle photos...soon though! Super fun rifle to shoot, fast, accurate, and the cartridge is impressive. No pressure issues and seems to be real easy on brass so far. Any other 6.5SAUM users? Load Data: Newest spec. GAP 6.5SAUM 4S reamer. 7mm Rem brass necked down, .291" bushing, and turned to .015" per Pat Sinclair instructions. 140 Berger Hybrid H1000 Powder @ 61.5grs. CCI-250 Primer COL @ 2.902" -.018" OTL Shoots .3's to .5's @ 100 yards. Worst group while testing 1 1/4" Speed average for 8 shots is 3142 fps with 12ES. Prior 5 shots @ 100 yards:

How did you get your bolt face and magazine to work with the SAUM brass?

Sendero:
Why the heavier barrel/build?? Do you feel the #3 contour is too "thin" for the caliber??
Just wondering .....I am very interested in this caliber!!

How did you get your bolt face and magazine to work with the SAUM brass? Easy, I just opened up the bolt face. However, they make magnum bolt heads now. No mods done with magazine as is fits in the model 70 bottom metal. I should have some pics up tomorrow. Sendero Man, very nice rifle btw. I'm really digging the 6.5 SAUM, and just had to drink the Kool-Aid... At 2000 asl shooting 1K with 250 zero it takes 5.5 mils elevation. Speed @ 1K is 1900fps and 1100 lbs energy with 140 Hybrids. Take that and rewind it back!

Trailrider, what kind of groups are you getting at 500yds? I can only shoot at our public range right now, high fire danger here in CA. My range has plates out to 700 yards;however, they have been lazy not painting the plates. There is a 5" plate @ 400 yards that was clean, so I shot at it with 3 shots. I was amazed with the group of 1" to 1 1/4" estimation. I should have took a photo through spotting scope. The rifle shoots!

How did you get the bolt face to work? Open it up yourself? Just curious. Goodshot Goodshot, Great question. I originally opened up the bolt face with lathe. However, I'm using the magnum bolt head from a Remington 783. It's the same, and to top it off PTG makes 783 performance parts that will interchange. I know its a mess of parts; however, I like the Marlin X action and like changing calibers. It's my way of low budget LR rigs that perform great! PTG Rem 783 Bolt Heads: Short Action Caliber Lug Size Shank Part # .223 .442 1.00 783SA01 6.8 .442 1.00 783SA04 PPC .442 1.00 783SA02 .308 .442 1.00 783SA03 Long Action Caliber lug Size Shank Part# .308 .500 1.125 783LA04 MAG .500 1.125 783LA05 .338 .550 1.125 783LAP01

Interesting. I did not know the Marlin and Remington parts inner-changed. I like the Marlins as well. I have a .243 that shoots 95 grain NAB like crazy accurate, and I bought my son a 7mm-08 that shoots graet as well. i hope they keep building the marlins....I bet they don't...mistake if you ask me. I am trying to figure out how to build a 6.5 RSAUM...cool round. After that maybe a 6mm creedmoor. good shooting , be safe. Goodshot
