Ingwe. We go a lot lol. We don't catch all that many. We put a lot of time in. Thing with Muskies is finding hot active fish. Lazy follows suck. There's no real trick. You get that hot fish and you can't keep him off of it. Just finding him is the key...

Found the same thing farther south with chain pickerel, the musky's little cousin.A lot smaller, but I liked to catch the big ones ( four pounds) and they were very musky-like...as compared to pike-like.
As you said, if they wanted it, you couldn't keep them away. If they didn't, you were hosed.
Pike only have one setting-they want it!

Pickerel look like a lot of fun on ultralight light tackle. I caught one in a creek behind my house. It wasn't the chain it was the grass. Like a miniature lunge.

Never even seen a grass pickerel. Are you far enough south for bowfin? We used to catch those nasty bastids incidentally....... eek

I figure they'll go after your musky lures given the chance.

Yea we have them lol. Swamp Muskies. I've never caught one. Friends have though. My understanding is that they live in swampy backwaters, ponds, marshes etc?

I've seen friends wrestle for a few minutes trying to decide whether to unhook the damm things or just cut the line and throw em back over the side!

I've never lived in an area that had muskie fishing. From everything I've read and heard they usually take a lot of time on the water and lots of people put in the time but still don't catch one. You guys know what you're doing.

Nice fish, Ky. We used to fish Cave Run when I was a teen. You could run a mepps right across one of those big muskies nose and they wouldn't yawn. Those are as big as I've seen out of that lake. How are you getting them to bite?

Those are great fish. You certainly have their number, no matter how many times you go.

Ella- there's no secret in getting them to bite. You just gotta find that one hot fish that wants to eat.

It's pretty straightforward fishing without too much thinking. ) fish where they are, cave runs hollows are chock full of milfoil weeds and the Muskies hang out in and around these weeds .Burning spinnerbaits (inline and long arm style) over the weedbeds is very productive. As the water gets cooler we fish a lot of rubber. Bulldawgs and medusas mostly. Main thing is just staying with it. Cast cast cast. Don't let your guard down, don't pull the bait outta the water without making at least an Lturn or a full figure 8 is even better. The minute you lift it out of the water she will be behind it every time

Muskies aren't bass. If they aren't hungry, they don't eat...period. Dosent matter what you run in front of them. Lotta people think they are just eating machines....not the case
