Does anyone have experience or knowledge of the guns they are now producing?
I am considering one for upland use. Likely a 20 or 28 ga.

Are they well made and reliable?

How is there customer service, if an issue arises?

The ones that I have handled are amazing and I would love to have one. Check out Shotgun World if you don't get many responses here.

Is a guy better off watching the classifieds for an older gun?

By price alone, they don't seem that high in comparison to other makes. the wingmaster is over $800 MSRP...

What would a guy look for in a used M37? I would prefer to have a factory VR barrel...

battue, bought a new 37 in 28 ga. I have owned one newer 37, and a couple older ones.. I much prefer the older models, but I don't think they made a 28.. My first pump was an Ithaca 20.. No rib though.. The older Ithacas don't seem as pricey as other guns.. Couple years ago I picked up a 12 ga. with a solid rib for $200. I had been used, but was in great shooting condition.. Let my pal have it for the same price.. Real dumb spell..

Cabelas was blowing out the new Ithica 20 & 28ga pumps a few months back. $799 your choice. I love the old model 37's and have been looking for a really clean 16ga for quail.

And, I don't think they ever made the old Model 37 in 28Ga. I've been going to gun shows for the last 35 years and have never seen one, anyways.

Had an ejection issue and they had it back in around 10 days and they were easy to talk with. Concerned that I had a problem and we're obviously shotgun people. Been running smooth with no problems and if you like 28's they balance well and carry easy. More than glad I bought one.

Ithacas are more popular in some areas than others therefore there is a lot of price variation. I bought a 20 gauge new in the early '70s for about $200 which raw higher than most pumps at that time. About three years ago I got a 1948 manufacture 16 gauge from a pawn shot for $235 out the door. About five years ago my son got a 12 gauge at gun show for $285 out the door. So there are good to decent deals out there.

This is off the subject of your question, but I bought a model 37 in 12 gauge as my first gun as a 14 year kid in the mid 70's. It is and always will be my favorite shotgun. It even shoots rifled slugs in an acceptable mannern out of the modified barrel. The only shortcoming of the gun is that it does not have a 3 inch chamber. I have watched these guns sell at auction recently in the $300 range. A great gun for the price.

I've owned and hunted with Ithacas (pumps and O/U) since the '60's. They are very reliable. I don't know about their service cause I've never had a problem and my 37 and 2 O/U's have been hunted hard. I suggest you look at the older used model 500 or 600 O/U's which they imported from Japan. The 20 is more difficult to find used than the 12. I've never seen a 28 in any of their models.

The real sleeper is a 16Ga Model 12. You can pay beeeeg dollars and not have a better balanced shotgun.

The Ithaca/SKB side by sides are a real sleeper also. The model 100 and 200 are really great guns. I wanted one when they were marketed, but I was a broke college kid and couldn't afford one. Now I just don't see them coming up for sale. The folks who have them know what a great gun they are.

A neighbor had a 600 O/U that was over choked. He shot a lot of rabbits to pieces with it. He had bought it for pheasant hunting when he lived in Michigan, but when he retired to Tennessee it was not suitable for rabbit hunting in the thickets. I don't know which of his nephews got it after he passed.

Agree on the 100/200 series. Very nice and well made.

the new ithaca's are made with tighter tolerances not as loose as the old ones.The old ones are fine guns i have a bunch of them.Personally if wanting to shot shoot the older ones probably fit bill better for the money but if you want to shoot slugs the new ones are huge difference.They can easily out shoot the old ones.That being said most slug gun hunting is 100 yards and less and any ithaca can fit this bill.

I just found one of the Ithaca SKB 200 SXS choled improved and modified and took it home. The shop also had several 12 ga 37's in excellent condition probably 70-80's vintage. I'd tempted to go back and pick one up just because you can't have too many good shotguns and my 20 ga 37 needs a companion 12.
