im shooting a Encore .50cal, i have gone to the range on two different days now only to return home with the same conclusion, poor accuracy, and a second shot flyer.my group size is at 3in @ 100yds, which is also increasing. the stumper is that on both occasions, the second shot is not even on paper, then the next two are close again. yesterday, i took a 308 with me as well, with the hope of ruling out human error. i am happy to say, that its not the shooter (this time) looking for advice!! Sounds like your scope might be screwed up.

I'd pull the scope and check your bases then reattach your scope pressing forward when you tighten it down. Check your rings and make sure they are tightened to the same opening on each side. If your shooting sabots take a look at them, it could be not set on the charge correctly or something else.

Also check your flash channel in your breach plug.

I had to send mine back to Thompson Center, it would throw a 4 inch or more pattern at 50 meters. TC claimed the lock up was not consistent I don't know if this was the case or not but the gun came back working better, it will now shoot a 2 inch group at 100 yards with BH209 100 grains, and the Hornady 250 grain bullets, black sabots.

I had tried 3 scopes on it! It was so bad I shot at a deer's shoulders at 40 yards and hit him in the windpipe, he died a slow death at which point I sent it back.

edited to add, I came close to wrapping it around a tree but reason prevailed.

jimmyp, it sounds like i unfortunately have your problem, i changed scopes, and didnt have a flyer, but im shooting coffee sized groups. i can shoot better than that with my flinter. i dont want to wound a deer, and chance loosing it. i should have listened to my family that i hunt with, and stuck with my $150 dollar cva that my little cousin is still shooting. 1-2 in groups with whatever powder, and sabot he puts in it..

ive tried over a dozen. the best i have come up with so far is a 250 grain powerbelt aerolite over 100 grains of blackhorn 209. i have never shot anything with an aerolite before, so if i decide to hunt, im unsure of what to expect from them. any info on the aerolite would be helpful.
