That's what I thought. Thanks Bigblock and all for the advice from everyone. It's been fun learning BP shooting.

Looking forward to trying some of the bullets recommended.

Any thougths on FFg v. FFFg powder with the 30inch barrel?

I'd go with 2fg. Mine really did good with the 370 maxiball and 80gr american pioneer 2f. T7 should do good as well for you. Just CLEAN between shots!

I forgot you said you were using Musket Caps

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Thanks bigblock. I have found that my first shot after a full clean is a bit of a flyer. I then run two wets and two dry patches then shoot a cap for some fouling and then reload. This process has given me consistent shooting. I have not yet worked on shooting without cleaning to see what a follow-up shot would do in the field.

Bigblock, do you not need to clean between shots with the american powder?

Yes, its a powder that actually leaves a reverse crud ring at the muzzle which makes for some damn tight loading. I would not suggest American though, it can be picky for shooters unless you can learn the process. One of the pickiest powders out of them all in my opinion.

Make your own swabbing solution. I got a 6oz bottle and using volume measurements, 3/8" purple power - 3/8" pinesol - top the rest of the bottle off with tap water. Shake it up good before use. Its some great stuff!

Great, thanks again for the help and insights. I'm looking forward to getting out for the actual hunt and then continuing to work with the gun sights.

Does anyone have experience with sighting your gun at higher temps and lower elevation than your hunt? What can I expect for change in performance when I get to the Mtn. I sighted at 2800 ft in 65 degree weather. I will be hunting from 7-9000 ft in temps that will likely range from 15-45 degrees.

I had been under the impression that fffg was for shorter barrels and pistols.

Thanks

I have not found that much difference between ffg and fffg 777 in my guns. The biggest thing for me is the smaller granules work better for me in sidelocks and in my White.

Rule of thumb is that ffg 777 is 15% hotter than pyrodex or black powder. So a 90 gr load would be equivalent to just over 100 gr black powder/pyrodex. fffg might ad another 2-3% in my experience. The only way you will know how your gun will shoot it is by trying it, don't think you can rely on barrel length. I am not sure a 30" barrel will burn 100% of either powder. That said, in my other 2 inlines (Knight LRH and T/C Omega), I use ffg (when I am not using Blackhorn)

If you are getting decent groups, which you seem to be, I would stay with what you are using
