I used to be the kind that would loan nearly anything to nearly anyone. Not so much, anymore.

It looked fine when I got it back. I turned the bolt, and then handled broke off in my hand. Somehow, it was partially detached from the weld at the back of he bolt and creased, so that the first attempt at use thereafter resulted in the break. The bolt didn't look beat up, but I can't really figure how anything short of beating on it with a ball peen hammer did that.
To be fair, he did have some friends with him. One of them might have done it. I doubt that I ever get an adequate explanation. I guess I am paying for my raising as that I was hell on farm equipment and anything else mechanical at that age.
My dad once told me that I could break a ball bearing in a rubber room.

Sounds to me like a manufacturing issue more than anything.

Yeah, it might have been, but who knows exactly? I can't really say because I don't know for sure what was done to rifle.
I'm keeping a good humor about it though.

A 17 year old boy could break an anvil with a rubber hammer.

When I was 17, there was usually alcohol involved and something like "watch this [bleep]!"

I agree that it sounds more like a bad weld if you don't see any other marks
Is there any rust where it broke?
One shot, one kill........ It saves a lot of ammo!

Depends on his parents. My nephew would be fine. He's in college at Bozeman, MT.

I'm keeping a good humor about it though. Was shooting factory ammo? Have you contacted Forbes to see what - if anything - they will do about it?

Based on the cost of a Forbes rifle, I would not let anyone borrow it---

I'm keeping a good humor about it though. Was shooting factory ammo? Have you contacted Forbes to see what - if anything - they will do about it? He was shooting factory as far as I know. So, yeah, I'm really perplexed. I called Forbes and left a message, but two days have passed and they haven't called back. No worries though, I called Melvin at NULA just to see if he would work on it if I paid him and he said quote "Send it back to me, it has my name on it." So, I sent it to him yesterday. I can't say enough about how nice he was and how pleasant it was to deal with him.
