Due to the defib/pacemaker I wear, my doctor has limited me to rifles of low recoil. No shotguns at all. Last year, I hunted with a CVA single shot .223 rifle. Accurate, easy to carry. Today, visiting in Alabama, I saw this CVA .243 single shot in Academy Sports. It seems to fit me, and the price was a reasonable $169.00. I bought it on the spot. I have a nice Pentax 1.75-6X scope at home, and I will get that mounted when I get back.

I bought the same one monday except mine was the scoped version. I got it for the grandkids to go along with the H&R 223 they already had. I hope it shoots as well as the H&R. Good luck.

I've got one in 708. I like it but its got to be loaded really light or it strings vertically. I'm talking pressures about 45k or accuracy gets real erradic.
$169 is a REAL STEAL......good for you!

I mounted the scope this morning. It's an elderly 20MM Redfield 5 Star 2-7X. This has been a wonderful scope through the years, and looks good on the little CVA rifle. I'll get to the range next week, and get it sighted in. Will be using Remington factory CoreLokt 100 grain.

I found the same aforementioned stringing issue to be present in my CVA Apex in .35Whelen. Load it to full-power and things get vertical. Bring it down a few notches and groups are nice and round. Shoots well with the lower-power loads. May not be the same issue in a .243win.
Now with even more aplomb

the CVA Apex I have in .223, shoots factory 64 grain Winchester to the same point of impact that it does my full load 64 grain Winchester SP hand loads. I don't seem to have any vertical stringing issues with either the factory loads or my own in .223. Have to get the little rifle to the range to see how it works out with the .243 cartridge though. I have factory 100 grain loads, as well as the 100 grain hand loads I make for my Son's Ruger 77.
