This is the third stabbing in the last two weeks within two blocks of my work. I'm not a big fan of cops shooting people who don't need to be, but this guy qualifies across the board on every count. 17 *convictions* and that animal was still on the street? Revolting. I hope the city starts arming the park rangers, who should've been packing to begin with.

The stabbings and 16 of the convictions could have been avoided if our system was worth a schitt....

A good reason why the violently mentally ill should be locked up for their lifetimes.

Agree with both of you, but both require taxpayers to foot the bill for incarceration. For every violent nut on the street to be put away for 20 years, that's $1M++ the taxpayers eat. On any given day downtown I see literally dozens of them. There is no real solution as I see it. Well, I have a few, and they're extremely cheap and quick and permanent but would never be accepted by the people as a legitimate solution. A pity.

Agree with you, too. The majority of Americans will never allow the violently mentally ill to be euthanized, so locking them up is the only solution that is feasible. Not saying likely, but feasible.

As for the cost of locking up the violently mentally ill, it doesn't have to cost as much as it does. One of the easiest ways to reduce the cost is to stop mental health care for those violently mentally ill who are being locked up for the rest of their lives.

Because they would never, ever be freed, they don't need to be treated.

Good point. Would never fly, but were I king, those types as well as violent felons would have to work to support their incarceration. Don't want to work for your keep and privileges? OK, welcome to 24 hour lock down. Indefinitely.
