What is a spotless 75th Anniversary 1895 worth? I may have the opportunity to pick one up and need to know...

You're going to get a diverse set of answers, freom the guys who view them as the chintziest of the post-mils, to the guys who grabbed them just to fill a hole in their collections, to the guys who think they ooze coolness. Depends what it's worth to you. I've seen them sell all over the map, the prices being reflections of what camp their owners fall into. I'll take a WAG and say $800, but I fall into the group that couldn't care much about them one way or the other.

(I can't imagine the bite of that crescent butt plate with full-snot .308 loads.)

Does it have all the original paperwork and box? That would be a true collector piece and could push a grand these days me thinks. Maybe more in an auction.

If it's used with none of the goodies it is a shooter I would expect to see go in the $600 range.

Prices are really all over the map lately it seems.

Shorten the barrel to 18", rebore to .358.

From what I've heard that 24" octagon barrel makes it very accurate though. I bought one I intended to shoot but it was NIB so I kept it that way and sold it to a collector.

I looked it over, if it was fired, it wasn't fired much. Absolutely spotless, if it's not 100%, you'd have to show me why. I don't know if he has the box, asking price is $800 and I'm REALLY tempted...

An as new Savage 99 ought to be worth $800 as a shooter.

I wouldn't trade a bag of marbles for one.

$800 would buy you a really nice pre-war R or T or G in todays market.

Just sayin.

I wouldn't pay that much for it. The collector interest just isn't there, and there are many better pre-mil guns that can be had for that price or lower.

You have a real nice T to sell for $800? They never made it to the midwest and I "NEED" one. GW

On the internet I don't think I've ever seen the NIB ones break $900 or $950 on a regular basis, and not sure the market is there now. Shooters usually range $750 and down.

I'm sure there are lots of collectors here that wouldn't part with their NIB for $900, but probably not many that would spend $1000 on one.

Pard of mine did just that last winter. We found one that had lived a rough life out in the village that had a pitted bore and no wood, but a good chamber and internals. He gave $250 for the gun and paid JES $225 I think to rebore it to 358. He whacked it at 20" and is hunting wood to put on it now.

Hard part will be finding a forearm for the oct. barrel. Several different models of buttstock wood might work. 99A wood might be close enough with some channeling of the forearm, plus it has a short forearm that would look better with the stubby barrel.

This weekend at Hayward, Wis. gun show there was one with box (and papers?) asking $900. I was there first 2 hours of show and don't know if it sold. Seller was taking offers, so....? He had PE in .243 for $3500 and several other nice 99s. the CE in box ($3500) too.

Only got one T and it's not for sale.

But Stever had a pretty darn nice one for sale not too long ago that I'm pretty sure he would take 800 for if he still has it.

Well looks like I need to work up some new .308 loads...Got a phone call from my dad today, guess he paid $700 for it. Told me he almost ordered one when they were new, seams one of the guys that served with him in the Scout Snipers really liked them and they had planned on ordering them and picking them up when they got back...just never got around to it.
