I don't think this is too bad in the weight department. 9 lbs 3 ozs for a 260 RTM in a McMillan A1-3 - specs as follows:

Rem 700 trued by Longrifles, Inc.
Bartlein #3 Fluted short shank and cut to 22"
Muzzle dia = .715" just behind 5/8x24 threads
Chambered in 260 Rem Tactical Match
Sniper gray cerakote
Timney trigger
McMillan A1-3 Std fill McMillan Camo
PT&G Detach BM w/AI 5-shot mag
Leupold Tactical 3.5-10X, Badger steel base, TPS Steel 1" Rings
Weighs 10 lbs 12 ozs with Liberty Freedom Mag suppressor

ETA: now 8 lbs 13.ozs with base/ring/scope swapout. See post below.

I run an A1-3 on my Norma. Great stock. Great build.

Just checked throat. I can go 2.86" COL with 140 Gr. A-Max kissing. And that's perfect for the AI mag. Will check H20 capacity of the Lapua brass and will run some quickload tomorrow and see what I come up with.

May try to load a few and head out to our new range south of town.

I'm lovin' it.

I will probably order another for a 16.5" .308 suppressor host that is in the planning stage.

This is my 4th. I have a 22-250, 223AI, and 280AI already. The 22-250 and the 223AI are definitely tackdrivers. Haven't shot the 280AI yet.

If you're going for light tactical, why did you choose steel for the rail and rings?

I wasn't really going for anything special. No target weight. I had the base and rings on hand.

Wonder how much weight would be saved with alum base and rings versus steel?

You'd save quite a bit, but maybe more of a consideration is the increased balance that it would yield. I personally hate that chunky weighty feel of a rifle that sits heavy in the trigger hand. If you're primarily running it from a bipod, it doesn't really matter. Plus, running a can shifts the balance way forward.

I definitely ain't taking it apart to see. I have aluminum pic rails on other rifles and aluminum TPS rings. But it's a non-issue to me. Rifle feels good in hand.

If I want it lighter, I'll drop it into a spare Swirly compact I have on hand and bolt on the Talley Lightweights.

Sounds to me like you shouldn't change a thing. Cool rig.

After a little thought and rummaging, I found a USO aluminum base and traded out for a VXII Tactical 3-9 with aluminum TPS rings off of a heavyweight. Saved 5-1/2 ozs. Not too big of a deal, but it's the way it should be now.

The bigger question is how does it shoot?

No idear. My best guess would be "exceptionally good" based on my experience with Chad's recent crop of rifles.

My 22-250 shoots in the 1's. As in .1". Haven't shot the 223AI for groups, but it's done the job on prairie dogs.
