Has anyone ever seen one of these before? Savage 99 barrel in .22-250 that's 22 inches long and completely finished. Barrel has no roll marks or caliber markings. Just the letter 'K' stamped on the barrel at the chamber end. Could these just be left over barrels from Savage that were not roll marked?

That's what mine looks like, exactly.

I had a 99C in 243 with no barrel address, but no sight dovetail either. After market barrels are out there, though likely custom ordered.

Rory, did you check out the "K" on the barrel? It looks a lot like Savage. What do you guys think?

I know Gun Parts used to have that caliber 99 barrel in their catalog about 20-years ago. I don't know if they were unmarked.

I just installed one of those barrels, it needed headspace and extractor cut adjustments. They fit the post-mil V-thread receivers. I'm pretty sure they came from Numerichs. Given their history of buying up old factory stock, they're probably leftover factory barrels.

Jeff, did headspace adjustment include setting the barrel back and throw the forearm stud off alignment with the forearm?

Yes it did. The necessary set back was about .0075", about 5-7 degrees of rotation. I filled the dovetail and swetted the forearm stud in place, and had to widen the extractor cuts. It was definitely PIA class project, I think it would have been easier to start with a new barrel blank.

I got so frustrated with the project I put it away without mounting a scope or doing any load work-up, plus it has make-do stocks on it, so it's ugly...later this winter I plan on getting back to it.

Would it have worked to rechamber to 22-250 Ackley to avoid the setback?

Yup, prolly would have worked by fireforming cases out the extra fraction too, but I have two other 22-250's that I full length size for, and I thought SAAMI headspace was the correct way to go this time.

If the OP can get that barrel for the opening bid, it would be a good deal in my opinion, but don't count on it being a simple barrel switch.

Mine looks a little off too, so I'll go the Ackley route if that'll work.
