No snow is right! It's supposed to be nearly 80 degrees this weekend and the long range forecast for next week isn't much cooler. I'm headed up to Craig for 4th season and snow is a huge part of our success as we need them to move from the high country down to the lower winter ranges.

I hate to say it but, it is what it is. Can't change the weather!

Headed up in 7 days. Forecast is for mid-50's to low 60's.

I'll be Looking for elk in the dark stuff for my first cow.

Second tag is for a Unit 3 cow. Looks like that tag will be useless as the chances of the migration being on are pretty slim.

I head to unit 83 on Saturday. Weather looks pretty mild - hopefully there will be some elk.

My first big game hunt. I'm excited as a little girl.

I just got back from a 2nd rifle season hunt in GMU 81. We built camp at 10,800 ft and hunted to 11,600+ ft. We had several evenings of rain for 30 or 40 minutes at a time and had sleet on a couple of occasions. That said, it was too warm for my liking. We hunted high but had no successagain.

Last year we had a foot of snow on the ground for second rifle. 5 years ago had three feet and had to pull camp early because it was still snowing. I had to chain up to get out. It's different every year. This was the hottest I can remember for probably 20 years. Next year we'll prbably have snow again. If the weather was the same every year, God wouldn't have named it "Earth" - he woulda' called it "San Diego".

When it's warm it makes it easier to know where they will be - north sloped shelves, bedded down. You just have to go put the sneak on them and get the wind right.

Thats funny. Sure wish you could hunt elk in San Diego - it would be a lot cheaper equipment wise (no need for 20 pair of wool socks!

I can tell you exactly where the elk will be in 24. But you are gonna need a pack horse...

Leaving for area 12 this afternoon. Wish it was going to be colder but at least we will be able to enjoy that beautiful part of the country for a week. Loved last years snows but we will just hunt harder and enjoy it just as much. Good luck to all heading out for this third season.
