Greg, If I live long enough I'm gonna learn a helluva lot from you. Had no idea about those aspects of the 44 and apparently some other fella went down that road with my gun years back. It has that "snap" you spoke of when closing the action lever. It also has a relieved hole in the forearm for a palm rest....Hmmmmm grin


Tex, there is an awful lot of old time perspective out there for the .25-20 Win. This fella seems to know a thing or two, though from his text he and I have had slightly different results on the path to success. When you're out and about at the gunshows, keep and eye out for the Ideal 257283 mould. It's a winner, though not the only game in town.

Next time you have that rascal un-assed, PLEASE lay the lever / link / block group out in something close to the same geometry as what I've posted, and get some pics of the setup found on your particular 44.

I haven't found a 44 action trashed bad enough to cut in half Or segment-mill into a fitting and tuning fixture, and can damn sure use help here.
