For anybody interested, Midway has Hornady .17 Hornet brass in stock.

Brass quality has been good on recent production brass. Another option may be found at link below.

Now if the Hornady 1710 25 gr HP & Accurate 1680 would start to surface I might be satisfied.

I should note they're all gone from Midway now. (And no, I didn't buy them all!)

Good luck on that one. Seems WW & RP have abandoned this and most other offerings. On the other hand offerings from across the pond seem much more readily available.

Not sure if this is a reflection of Obummer policy or what. If Privi 22 hornet brass will work for you that has been available a little better than sporadically.

Others and myself have been forming 17 Hornet brass from the Privy brass with very favorable results.

Ditto on the PRVI brass. It's good stuff, in my experience, but I only shoot greatly reduced loads so my opinion may not count for much. I recently stumbled onto a 100 bag of W-W and one of R-P, at $20/bag. I certainly brought them home (and no, they aren't for sale!).

If I only had PRVI brass to use, I wouldn't feel bad. It turns up a pretty fair amount- keep your eyes peeled around the internet.

I have shot some very hot loads with the Privi brass when fire forming with great results all around. I find this to be very uniform and surprisingly tough brass. Stands up well to what I have put it through so far. Only 4 firings on the brass thus far.

Lost one fire-forming load initially due to an experiment on my part. I tried with the one case fire forming 17 HH with out annealing. Needless to say I highly suggest one anneal their brass as a last step when converting these cases to 17 H, 17 AH, 17 HH or 22 AH.

Sounds as if you have an obsolete firearm, better dispose of it as soon as possible. I can help you if you wish. Just send my way Ill wave the disposal fee this week, as I am just that nice of a guy.

Or you could wait it out and see what surfaces for brass. You may also wish to try the following links for live ammo.

Hunterapp, I have about 700 or so cases but that is just a real good start for gophers in MT. I have been offerd a few hundred more but will keep trying to find some before I take up that very generous offer. My last purchase was in January at a gun show and haven't seen any, other than the privi, since then. Muddy

Midway has Hornady .22 ammo in stock right now, and not a bad price.

Judd,

I did some figuring. Minus the price of the bullet, powder and primer in the Hornady ammo, you could shoot them up at gophers and have the cases for about $45 per 100! Plus, you would have saved the time loading, say, 500 rounds. But am guessing that doesn't sound like the deal you're looking for....

JB, It's really hard to take the farm boy outta me and pay for factory ammo. I did the same siferin' and came out the same as you. My problem is that I have lotsa bullets, primers and suitable powders on hand and I guess if push comes to shove I can take my Lee hand press, suitable rotor for my Lil Dandy and load in MT, or get out my 700 BDL 223 and shoot up the thousand or two leftovers from years past. As to time, I'm taking care of my mother full time now and have the time to load and I do like my Hornet best, Thanks-Judd

Just wondering out loud- has anybody here blown out .17 Hornet brass to make .22 Hornets? Those thin cases might not fare too well in the process, but...

They'd end up at least .05" short, but it probably would work OK.

May be more inclined to try the new Privi 22 Hornet brass at roughly $26.00 per 100 at Powder valley or Graf & sons for a little more. I do not have a 22 Hornet. I have been forming 17 hornet from the privy 22 hornet brass with good results.
