the .270 is either i think loved, or hated, but does attract a lot of grief for the caliber.
I finally had a chance to take a couple out today, fire restrictions removed, and see if the scopes were still on.
I was using a browning B.A.R. in 270 for the above, reloads with 130gr hornady jsp's in did in 2003.
I haven't shot this rifle in quite a few years.
It seems as if it does not have any problems.
Interresting to me, at least, is the idea that a 270 isn't to sensitive to weight differences in the bullets.
This rifle does have the B.O.S.S. system on it, and i had it set for 150 grains.
I don't think i need to adjust it.
If it just has enough to penetrate a squirrel.

i'm hoping, the popcorn bin is filled.
had a friend email me this morning just killed sunday a bull elk at a little over 400yards with a 270 short magnum. I guess it did penetrate, one shot, bang flop, but that was because he rubbed holy water on the barnes bullet.

naw, i could of shot more, but it was in the same place it was last time i shot it. And i had another one, a ruger hawkeye in .270 that i am rapidly falling in love with. It shoots as good or better.
I can say one thing, i had some work done on a remington 350 rem mag model 660, and i was curious to see where it was going to hit.
Actually four inches high, so 16quarter clicks down, bingo.
Remind me to think a little about recoil when i mount a scope. It got to my eyebrows, another little bit and i would have been leaking blood.

I got a moose in BC once with one, Ron. That's a nice little two shot group for a BAR.

a deer died once, because of that rifle. early in the morning i was trying to sneak off from my son and son in law, walking up a dirt road through a canyon with heavy tree cover. Heard something like a stampede coming down the mountain to my right.
was a couple of full size muley's at full gallop. I had that browning slung on my left shoulder, and i am left handed. It is so much like a rem 1100 shotgun, it was like making a quail shot for me. I told the deer later he would have still been alive if he had slowed down a little bit.

I think 270 bullets have a fetish for heart muscle after OConner went to Heaven and asked God to bless them years ago.

If you're going to belittle yourself by hunting with a .270, you could at least put some nice wood on it! Beautiful gun, Tex

According to some of the Gurus, he must have died from fright because he thought you were pointing a REAL rifle at him....... If he'd only have known........... wink

the only problem with that gun is it doesn't have one of them wooden thingies under the barrel that you move back and forth to make it go bang again.

In the days when men were men, it was known as the unbelted magnum. Yeah, we've come a long way, baby. Well, not so much, maybe.

"Heaviest" rifle I owned at the time, and it had to do.

It did, handsomely.

the other one i was playing with was a ruger hawkeye lh bolt.
I had a 3x12 scope on it with a multiple dot reticule.
It was kind of fun to hit at 100, drop one dot hit at 200, drop another and hit at 300.
I think i am slowly getting magnumed out. I own them, don't dislike them, but not sure I see the need for them in the majority of cases.
The exception to that is long range shots on elk.

deer & bear from 30ft to 450yds for me. just what would have done without the 270 for the last 40 years?

270's i can remember owning ,i'm sure there were more.

rem 700's ,at least 10
ruger 77,6 i think
browning abolt,3
savage 110,4
marlin 2
mossberg 2
sako,1
winchester 70,3
nef,1
j p sauer,1
tikka t3 ,4
rem 760,1
rem 740,7400,model 4,3

then theres the 6.8 ar15 i built to use up the lightweight .277 bullets

A customer gave a NIB BAR in 270 Win as a retirement gift. He said I could trade it off for something I liked better.

It shot OK, but I already had a 270 Wby in a No. One so I traded the Browning for something else, don't recall what it was, but I HAD to have bettered myself. grin
