Had an amazing time hunting New Mexico. Myself, brother and Dad all had tags. We scouted a few days and had some good bulls spotted only to be busted on opening morning by a quad driving up the canyon. Never did find them again. While chasing after them and circling back we ran into 2 bulls that we making their way up the ridge. They spooked and my brother and I took off after them. Coming to a big flat we werent sure which way to go. My dad caught up and said he saw them go left. We thought they went right. Standing there discussing the plan my brother looks over and spots them coming through the junipers. We setup and I waited but nobody took a shot. The lead bull turned and faced us trying to figure out what we were. I fired and he staggered and dropped in his tracks. I had my first bull and with a muzzleloader! The shot was 274 yards. The packout was heavy but well worth it. My brother ended up taking his bull on the 4th day after some close calls on a few other bulls. We had a great time and did some fishing also. I can't wait to try and draw the tag again! Hopefully sometime in my life I can hunt it again.

Awesome and Congrats!
Where did you all hunt?

Congrats, way to get it done.
If you draw that tag again, buy a lottery ticket. I know residents going on 20+ years for that tag.

Congrats Andy. I know you were well prepared for that hunt and the 274 yard shot. Sounds like an awesome time with your dad and brother.

New Mexico was amazing and I can't wait to go back. The local people were great and got some great advice from a few guys that paid off. I can still close my eyes and see that huge herd bull running away though!!

Well done Andy!!! That's a heck of a nice bull, actually both are darn nice bulls. Sure would be a blast to hunt elk there.

Congratulations! NM is tops, thus my reason for moving here.

Great job. What kind of load and gun and where did you hit it IIMA?
Nice job for a MZ at that distance.

I was shooting a TC Omega with 290gr Barnes TMZ loaded over BH209. The scope was a vx3 5.4-14 with BC reticle which I spent a lot of time verifying the drops and testing out to 300 yards.
The shot hit square in the chest destroying in sternum and traveling into the vitals.
