I was fortunate to draw an antelope tag in Montana as well as a deer tag in Wyoming. Hunting with Blue Rock Outfitters near Broadus, MT, I was able to take two great animals. I took my 308EG with me and believe me folks, those guys out there thought I was a nut bringing a lever gun. I reassured them this wasn't a Marlin thutty thutty,

Shot this mule deer at 245 yards, dropped in his tracks, a follow up was needed.

This antelope was a total stud, 79 6/8". 235 yard shot, laying in his bed.

A dream come true to have an opportunity to chase these critters. And one last pic of my dancin' partner

Very VERY nice. Lever guns will do ANYTHING any other rifle will do.......

That is outstanding work!

Was just thinking yesterday we should be soon hearing from Billy about his Wyoming adventure.

You could hunt antelope another 30 years and not shoot a buck like that.

Well deserved success for a good guy.

150's out of a green box I presume?

Good for you!! glad to see a fellow Savage loony get the goods with a fine old rifle. I like longer barrels myself so the 24" EG is perfect!!

Do tell us about the ammo?

Randy and Mike,

150s out of the green box. I should have dug the mushroom out of the goat, as it didn't exit, but I never thought to do so until on the flight home. Thanks for the kind words, one happy redneck down here.....

"Those guys out there thought I was a nut bringing a lever gun.". I wonder if they ever stopped to consider the hundreds of thousands of animals that have been taken with lever guns of all sorts over the last century and a quarter.

I was hunting north of Gillette, right on the state line. Units 17,18 and 34 I think. My guide Lee glassed up a heavy 3 point with a possible kicker and we were headed to check him out. We were driving to get into a better position to see him, when we looked a ridge over, and this buck was standing there watching us. Threw my pack on the hood and launched one at him. High shoulder, a close range follow up put him in the truck.

The antelope shot was fun. He and his flock of ladies, and another stud buck, hung out in an upper hay field. We made a move as he was bedded. Slipped into a gully to get the wind right and ended up close to getting busted. Belly crawled a good 200 yards thru waist tall grass. Managed to get within 235 undetected, sitting on sticks I put one into him as he was bedded facing away from me.
