I do try to get lower at time's but problem getting back up with the bad knee I have. This is a young dog just getting going and if he moved I wouldn't want to be occupied doing something else other than watching him. Lot of time's I take a cane out with me to pull myself up with. Absolutely right about getting lower!

Most guy's that have them shy away from the term Irish Setter, don't want to be affiliated with most of the AKC show dog version. Most call then Red Setter's or Irish Red Setter'd, they are registered with ADSB as Irish setter's though. The Red came about in the early 50's to restore the talent's the AKC show dog had bred out of it. Started with the best female field Irish they could find and crossed her with 1947 Nat Ch Mississippi Zev, English Setter. The rest is history. Distinctly different breeds both called the same thing.

I've only ever had GSP's going back to what dad had when i was a kid, but man I sure like your dog Squirt. Might make me hit the setter market in a few years when my current shorthair slows down some.

I'm a bit familiar with some of the technical stuff though it's been and long time since I have been around the "irish" setters... as a kid my biological father had 2 irish setters... (Schatzi and Red) never forget those 2... super K9 and well bred for upland birds.

he then moved to Brittany's and I went with GSP's but that was back in the 80's

Nevertheless... fabulous looking pups!

Had Irish Setters as a kid, mid to late 60s. Bought a female from a breeder in Wichita that said he liked the smaller frame dogs. I'll never believe those dogs weren't crossed to English and Brittany. Smaller and much lighter colored than my big rawboned Irish that I knew of the breeding. Old Clancy didn't have a lot of style, but if there was a covey of quail in the pasture he'd find and point them. Little Cindy hunted a lot closer, wasn't a great covey dog, but would sure mop up on the singles.
